Just released a new analysis of "The Economics of Continued Operation of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, 2030-2045"
While the NRC renewed the license, the state of California still needs to approve continued operation.

Interesting valuation analysis of wind generation.
My new ⚡️electricity economics report at @MLInstitute : the Province should pay no more than CAD$46/MWh for 🌬️wind generation in 🇨🇦Ontario's nuclear & hydro-dominant grid. A thread🧵

Almost all pathways to net-zero I'm familiar with keep a significant amount of installed capacity operating at low capacity factors. It will definitely be a challenge to align the market design with this cost optimal pathway. Market design has long been challenging.
The latest study on interregional transmission into/out of ERCOT seems to suggest that you can have anywhere from a 0 to 60 GW transfer capability & that does not meaningfully change any value of installed generation capacity in Texas's energy-only market, other than to increase the share of wind. 🧐
What is the alternative? Reading Travis' submission it is merchant DC lines. I don't see how that solves the problem of low capacity factor installed capacity.
Important development for financing new nuclear in regulated states. Interesting/troubling contract issue in the design and approval of the special tariff.
Responding to growing demand, Duke Energy, @amazon, @Google, @Microsoft and Nucor execute agreements to accelerate clean energy options to help utilities serve the future energy needs of large businesses in North Carolina and South Carolina. Read more: spr.ly/6016ewCUu.

At various academic conferences, I have been asking colleagues to show my studies demonstrating the benefit of retail choice. I will happily read NRG's bought study and get back once I digest it. Challenge to Travis: show me good peer reviewed published studies.
These journalists chose to ignore the most recent data, which tells a very different story, so we compiled it for you! Happy to talk to you about it.

Thank you to @shankman and @MiriamWasser for excellent reporting on retail marketers ripping off customers. We should not be allowing this in Massachusetts.
Maybe it happened to you; maybe it happened to someone you know — suddenly high electric bills, perhaps coming a supplier no one remembers signing up with.
Welcome to the wild world of competitive electric suppliers — @MiriamWasser and I dove in.

Great new research. Good that the thread highlights that the lack of long term contracts may be the lack of a buyer which is an artifact of choosing restructured markets.
Excited to share a new paper!
We find that estimated costs of renewable subsidies may be inflated because subsidies can correct a market failure that is often ignored. Same applies to CO2 pricing.

When I was an undergraduate, I protested apartheid. I participated in a sit-in, taking over the Princeton administration offices. It violated university rules. Lucky for me that the university did not expel me as these litigants would have MIT expel these students.

Glad to see public officials calling a scam a scam. I've personally listened to the deceptive marketing pitches they call out. Hate to think of neighbors being taken. @MayorWu @AJCampbellMA Mass. should ban third-party electric suppliers bostonglobe.com/2024/01/29/o… via @BostonGlobe

Good. I'm glad the MIT Corporation spoke up unreservedly. We can all work together under her leadership to make this an outstanding place for all students to learn and do research.
