Unironically this is the same thing RTI helped the Ministry of Health in Uganda do: renegotiate terrible contracts and in source things they could do themselves.
Mayor @ZohranKMamdani on cutting down wasteful budget spending:
There was waste. There's also this addiction to consulting. When we looked at the city budget, we realized we had to save money through efficiency. So we set up something called 'Chief Savings Officers' in every department. We saved $94M just by renegotiating contracts to a better rate. We saved $24M by letting go of unused office space. I believe that government has to be the most excellent, efficient version of itself to be worthy of people's trust.
I love this quote so much. It captures the truth about every aspect of your life, not just sports.
Bucs rookie QB Jalon Daniels ahead of his first start, via @Sara_Walsh:
"You canβt be a thermometer, you have to be the thermostat."
If the Troy Jackson campaign is interested in hiring a southern white man who likes football to keep them from saying dumb stuff, my DMs are open :)
Being a white guy from the south who loves college football and has liberal views means that my existence breaks the brains of a lot more people than Iβd previously realized.
Even though weβre not the majority of our demographic, we exist, and always have.
Weβre a numerically large pool from which you can recruit comms staffers.

Neyland Stadium is the loudest venue in College Football
This makes me sad. My family came here on the Ark and the Dove. That doesnβt make me more American than Lakshya. America is an idea, an idea that if you work hard, play by the rules, (and love football) then you are one of us, regardless of the color or your skin or your accent.

Also, horns down. Weβre going to crush these losers in two weeks. #govols
My ideology is celebrating this.

Strengthening the Afghan Midwives Association to train and support midwives was part of a project I worked on from 2013-2016. Critically important. Wrecked by people who didnβt care.
No one died from USAID closure? New @refugeesintl report by @priyalisur says otherwise.
USAID introduced & protected Afghan midwifery. Now β
are gone.
Result: In one province. newborn deaths rose 43%; another 60%. In Herat, maternal deaths rose 5X. πrefugeesinternational.org/reβ¦
Where do I sign up for this job?! Sounds fun.
In the same public school system that her kids would attend, my 9 year old has learn to read and write (and spell!) in both English and French. π€

Mexico vs England is basically the Iron Bowl. A team I hate with the fire of a thousand suns vs a team I mildly dislike.

#USMNT striker Folarin Balogun on his immediate reaction to red card:
βI think it was just important to stay calm. I never want to react out of anger and out of emotion. Thereβs still lots of people weβre inspiring, little kids, boys and girls who are watching, and we have to show them the correct way to handle things, even when you think it's unjust.β
On shaking refβs hand postgame:
βAs said, you can feel like something, injustice can happen to you. Itβs not an excuse to be disrespectfulβ¦ I'm aware that the World Cup might be the first time a lot of American viewers are tuning in. So it's important just to show people, whether things happen to you, good or bad, just to continue to be yourself.β

Given current debates, resharing my piece that was called "perhaps the best account of what really happened to USAID" in Devex.
Tldr: it really was that Elon got radicalized on online conspiracy theories and blew up systems he didn't understand

Independent analyses estimate that your actions to dismantle USAID and drastically reduce lifesaving foreign aid have already killed 700,000 people. Here are some of those people. π§΅xitter.cf/elonmusk/status/206944β¦
All DOGE required was contact information of the recipients to confirm that funding was not fraudulent. No validated medical funding was stopped.
Anything that appeared to be legitimate lifesaving funding continued and is now administered by the State Department.
If anyone had actually died as a result of DOGE, their names would be worldwide headline news!
On the other hand, USAID did help fund the Wuhan Virology Institute, which caused the deaths of millions, and the revolution that started the Russia-Ukraine war.
Having been around the sport for nearly 40 years as a coach, player, and referee, I think this is right.
Americans think if we throw enough money, resources, and talent at a problem, we can fix it. But maybe, we just need to forget all that and return to the love of the gameβ¦

Regarding #Uganda, the Ministry of Health has not been engaged on the establishment of the treatment centres referred to here, and we are therefore not aware of where they may have been set up within the country.
We continue to affirm that Uganda has so far registered only two imported Ebola cases: one fatality and one patient currently responding well to treatment under close medical care. There are no local infections and the country remains safe.

In support of the #Ebola outbreak response, the United States is funding the establishment of up to 50 treatment clinics in Ebola-affected regions of the DRC and Uganda primarily through @UNOCHA. These rapidly deployed clinics are intended to strengthen outbreak containment, expand access to care, and ensure critical resources reach the most affected communities.
