POST 173 A FUNGUS WITH A TREE FOR A BUSINESS PARTNER 🤝🍄 Beneath the woodland floor, black truffles and trees are working together in a remarkable partnership called mycorrhiza. The truffle fungus associates with fine tree roots, helping the tree access water and mineral nutrients from the soil. In return, the tree supplies carbon compounds made through photosynthesis — energy that helps the fungus grow. Tuber melanosporum, the Périgord black truffle, is particularly associated with suitable host trees such as oak and hazel. And yes, truffles can be cultivated — but it takes compatible trees, suitable soil conditions and years of patience. This isn’t a quick business venture; it’s a long-term investment in nature! No written contract, no board meetings… just millions of years of cooperation. Try explaining that to your accountant! 😂 #Symbiosis #SoilScience #Mycology #Truffles #Fungi 🔵🔵💜
