The World Leaders in Cancer Care, changing the way cancer is treated.

Williams Cancer Institute treats liver cancer with techniques it has been refining since 2008. We treat both primary liver cancer and cancers that have spread to the liver from other organs. Because the liver has its own artery, we can deliver immunotherapy through that artery and concentrate the drug where the tumors are. Most patients complete treatment in about a week. Liver cancer patients can book a free evaluation at williamscancerinstitute.com/…

We will be postponing this livestream to next week as a result of some scheduling conflicts. Doctors are busy people!
Can diet and fasting fight cancer? @jasonwilliamsmd and @drgoodyear weigh in this Friday on Beyond the Standard, starting from a recent review of fasting and metabolic diets in oncology. The episode also covers the FDA's approval of dostarlimab, the immunotherapy that let most patients in its rectal cancer trial avoid surgery, chemo, and radiation. Watch live on X and our other channels.

Shortness of breath during immunotherapy needs a doctor's attention right away, because it can signal pneumonitis, an inflammation of the lungs. Pneumonitis and pneumonia can look alike on a scan. Fever and a high white blood cell count point more toward pneumonia than pneumonitis. Doctors usually need a CT scan to diagnose pneumonitis, because a chest X-ray can miss it. About 5 to 10% of breast cancers are linked to a gene mutation inherited from a parent. Many families with a strong history of breast cancer carry changes in genes other than BRCA1 and BRCA2, such as PALB2, CHEK2 and ATM. Doctors classify a variant as high risk when it carries a lifetime breast cancer risk above 50%. Inheriting a high-risk variant raises the odds of breast cancer without making it certain. A biopsy that tests low for PD-L1 can miss PD-L1 elsewhere in the tumor. The edges of a tumor, where immune cells meet cancer cells, often show more PD-L1 than the center. Tumors can also release PD-L1 into the blood inside tiny particles called exosomes, beyond the reach of a tissue test. Because many insurers decide immunotherapy coverage on biomarker results, an incomplete test can cost a patient access to treatment. Our blog post on tumor biomarkers is at williamscancerinstitute.com/…

Going live soon!
A study of 460,000 people made headlines this week for finding no link between ultra-processed food and colon cancer. But is that all there is to it? Tomorrow at 1pm on Beyond the Standard, the doctors break down what the study actually showed, plus what’s inside their first mini-book, soon to be available on Kindle. Streaming here on X.

Cutting sugar cannot starve a tumor, because the liver keeps blood sugar steady even when you stop eating it. Diets heavy in added sugar can still push up cancer risk through insulin resistance and chronic inflammation. One systematic review linked each extra 250 mL a day of sugary drinks to a 17% higher risk of breast cancer, though an association like that does not prove cause. Read more about sugar and cancer on our blog at williamscancerinstitute.com/…

Williams Cancer Institute treats breast cancer with techniques it has been refining since 2004. For some small, low-risk tumors, cryoablation freezes the cancer through a needle. For advanced breast cancer that has stopped responding, we pair ablation with immunotherapy injected into the tumor. Williams Cancer Institute had used breast cryoablation for more than twenty years when U.S. regulators authorized a breast cryoablation device in 2025. See how we treat breast cancer at williamscancerinstitute.com/…

Health reports that only about 5% to 10% of cancer cases are hereditary, so a family history of cancer does not guarantee a diagnosis. Dr. Jason Williams told Health that at-home tests like Cologuard and the Teal Wand are useful for screening, but patients should not rely on those results alone. health.com/family-history-ca…

Dr. Nathan Goodyear joined @nathalieniddam on Longevity with Nathalie Niddam to explain why cancer and longevity are so closely linked, even though medicine usually treats them as separate conversations. @drgoodyear walks through how destroying a tumor where it sits can engage the immune system against cancer elsewhere in the body. Doctors call that response the abscopal effect. The full episode is here. natniddam.com/podcast/6nbp6b…
