Why do we override our gut instincts to stay socially acceptable?
In the fallout from the Raynor Winn revelations, I’ve been thinking about how #BeKind culture and the pressure to be emotionally agreeable have made healthy scepticism feel… unkind.
Not a cosy read, but hopefully a thought provoking one.

Wonder how long it’ll be before Netflix announces it’s dropping a documentary on #TheSaltPath Scam, with Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs playing Sally and Tim Walker?
Let’s face it, it’ll be a lot more interesting than the frankly terrible book/film…
I know I’m not alone in having wondered for a very long time at what point the story behind #TheSaltPath would be exposed as disingenuous.
I’m horrified but not surprised to learn it’s way worse than that… Incredible investigative journalism.
I've just heard that my Substack publication 'Pass The Salt Water' is now #40 Rising in the Parenting category on Substack.
I can't believe it! So ironic given it wasn’t built with a strategy or a content plan, and I spend my day job selling the importance of strategy! Nope, this stuff just gets written in the scraps of time I can find, about what parent carer life actually feels like.
Thanks to all the readers, sharers, subscribers. You've made my day.

Back on here after three years.
Just published a new piece on Pass The Salt Water about parent carer life, the things we don’t say out loud, and why “what doesn’t kill you” doesn’t make you stronger. It just makes you tired. Or, maybe, a bit weird?
It’s not a rant. It’s not a sob story. It’s just what it is.

If you’re feeling at all down at the state of the world and humanity right now (easy to do!) then this wonderful piece about children’s author Julia Donaldson and her husband Malcolm is bound to warm your heart ❤️

Today a wonderful thing happened.
A physio/OT appointment where it felt like as parent, school and professionals we made a super team around my boy, listening and understanding his needs and finding creative solutions.
I wish it was always like this ❤️

While ‘superpower’ is a loaded word I’m not sure I’d have used, seeing neurodivergent entrepreneurs doing well and being written about positively in national press is a huge step forward 🙌

The truth is that we’re all responsible for the dreadful things @GeorgeJulian documents so painstakingly. Until we learn how to value learning disabled and / or autistic people properly this will continue. It’s not just a few bad apples.
Thumbs up to @tate St Ives for the @ChangingPlaceUK loo (and an incredible exhibition plus this glorious view) ❤️

wouldn't it be great if @NHSEngland had a carers policy across all hospitals so that when carers are in hospital caring for loved one they are treated like staff access to food and a cuppa and a bed and a pee while they take the pressure off staff on wards #RealCarersWeek

This, friends... this is how a disability bill should be constructed: a public consultation to help determine the content and coverage for ALL people with learning disability, autism and neurodiversity.

It's taken me years to not feel swallowed whole by the blood, sweat & tears of getting education, health & social care to cater for my children's disabilities & neurodivergence.
Now it sits there like a sort of side-car in life. I can't saw it off but I can blinker it from view.
I’d lay down my life to say there’s just as much that is joyful and wonderful about raising disabled children as there is non-disabled children. (Maybe more, but shhh)
It just comes with a side order of unpleasantries served up by education, health and social care 😬
My favourite Twitter thread in a long time, mostly for the marvellous use of the English language to describe various politicians as:
‘Furiously glaring testicle’
‘Leaking bin bag full of custard and Viagra’
‘Betwattled, box-faced Etch-a-Sketch dingbat’
A must read 😂

I'm sure many parents of disabled children can recall times when their human rights, and those of their child, have been compromised by the action (or inaction) of councils, the NHS and schools. This 👇is fascinating.
Fascinating decision of the Supreme Court of BC (Canada), allowing a parent to be joined to a disabled child’s human rights claim to argue they had been discriminated against through a school’s alleged failures to make accommodations for the child #SEND bccourts.ca/jdb-txt/sc/22/05…
