🇫🇷 "I have two passions: the brass band and the revolution." A chant led by marching orchestras has become an anthem of France's protest movement.
In Paris on Thursday, several hundred musicians and singers from the Orchestre du Nouveau Monde led the march from Place de la République to Place de la Nation. The orchestra, founded about six years ago, has about 250 members, mostly students, young workers and amateurs, and uses classical music to campaign for social and climate justice. Conductor Étienne Jarrier marked the general strike day on Thursday and urged the movement to "block the country."
The orchestra has called for bands to form at protests nationwide under the slogan "Orchestras everywhere, silence nowhere." Organizers say 25 cities answered, including Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg and Lille.
The chant's lyrics:
J'ai deux passions (I have two passions),
La fanfare, la révolution (The brass band, the revolution).
Vive les blocages, les sabotages (Long live the blockades, the sabotage),
Les ZAD et les manifs sauvages ! (The ZADs and the wildcat marches!)
J'ai deux passions (I have two passions),
La fanfare, la révolution (The brass band, the revolution),
Se soutenir, construire le rêve (Support each other, build the dream),
Que la terre entière se soulève ! (Let the whole world rise up!)

"We are asking you to help us do something tangible. We can’t sink into helplessness. Help us get families out of the floodwater and into shelter that can actually protect them.
We cannot stop the storm, but we can refuse to stand by while families face it without protection."
Gaza is DROWNING. And this should make us angry, furious and outraged!
🚨Urgent support needed 🚨 chuffed.org/project/113222-t…
Overnight, thousands of tents collapsed under the storm, with dozens of displacement camps now completely underwater. The rain is expected to continue until Monday.
This is the FOURTH winter that Palestinians in Gaza have faced under genocide. After years of bombardment, displacement and destruction, families who have already lost their homes are now watching their only remaining shelter collapse under the rain.
Think about what that means: parents trying to keep their children dry, families desperately trying to salvage their belongings from floodwater, people who have already been displaced repeatedly being left with nowhere safe to go.
There is something profoundly wrong with a world in which people are forced to fight this hard for the basic right to shelter. They should never have been put in this position.
The Sameer Project is already replacing dozens of destroyed tents and arranging truckloads of sand to help absorb water in flooded camps. But the need is far greater than our current resources.
We urgently need funding to provide higher-quality, more durable tents. These cost $700, compared to $200 for lower-quality alternatives. Many families are refusing the cheaper tents because they know they will likely break again. We are also looking to buy hundreds of tarps and blankets. They cannot keep starting from nothing every time a storm hits.
We are asking you to help us do something tangible. We can’t sink into helplessness. Help us get families out of the floodwater and into shelter that can actually protect them.
We cannot stop the storm, but we can refuse to stand by while families face it without protection.
Please urgently donate whatever you can and share this appeal. Every contribution brings another family closer to having somewhere safe and dry to sleep: chuffed.org/project/113222-t…

“Israel is pursuing and engineering death in Gaza. So do not be complicit.”
— Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defense in Gaza ⤵️
“Israel is pursuing and engineering death in Gaza. So do not be complicit.” Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza, addresses the world after the first winter storm tore through the Strip on November 7, 2026, saying his crews lived through every scene of families flooded out of their tents but had no equipment, no machinery and no means to help them.
Within 12 hours, around 70,000 tents were flooded, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office, and dozens of walls of buildings already damaged by Israeli bombardment collapsed, injuring people, some of them seriously. Civil Defence and municipal crews say they could not pump out the water or open drainage channels because of fuel shortages and broken equipment. About ten rainwater suction trucks have been held at the crossings for a year as the occupation blocks their entry, and by August municipalities said they had received no fuel for their heavy machinery since March. Diesel has become so scarce and expensive that generator owners have resorted to burning cooking oil.
This is the fourth winter Gaza’s displaced have spent in tents, and a year into the ceasefire the Israeli occupation still restricts the entry of tents, tarps, caravans and building materials. “Don’t make us say that our blood didn’t move you to act,” Basal says. “So how are these scenes supposed to move you?”

This “Israel should be treated like every other country” line is a clever dodge. It has everything: flattening genocide with other human rights abuses, vaguely implies antisemitism (Free Space), avoids any normative determination & defers to a mysterious far off IHL finding (1/2)
.@jonfavs: Would you restrict weapons sales at all [to Israel]?
Shapiro: America sells weapons to lots of countries...and should those nations violate the terms of the sales, they would no longer be permitted to purchase those weapons. I think Israel should be treated as other nations are.

🇫🇷 Journalist asks 8-year-old Marcel: “Why are you protesting today?”
Marcel: “Well, I think Macron is an asshole.”
Journalist: “Merci, Marcel.”
Protesters took to the streets across France for a fourth straight Saturday, with student unions saying about 250,000 people joined. Police fired tear gas in Paris, where fires burned and officers detained protesters.
The government deployed 70,000 police and gendarmes, and Paris police banned a Yellow Vest rally at Place de la Concorde and refused many other protest permits. Police arrested two Yellow Vest leaders, Benjamin Ball and spokesperson Azelma Sigaux, near the National Assembly, according to AFP.
The movement began in late September, when high school and university students protested overcrowded classrooms and unfilled teaching posts. It has grown into a broader revolt, joined by unions and the Yellow Vests, against the rising cost of living and the government's plan for €61 billion in spending cuts. About 6,800 people, most of them minors, have been arrested since it began.

It’s a conspiracy theory when you point out a handful of billionaires are working to push the democratic party right so as to align with their economic and ideological interests
We are leaving conspiratorial nonsense aimed at generating clicks and subscriptions in the past.
What we are doing is building off the massive wave and creating a real, durable majority in both the House and Senate that's going to do a lot of good for a lot of people.
Sorry but this stuff does not fly anymore.

When anti-Semites organize to rally in Philly, this is how the left responds. I won't be lectured to by Zionists.
One week from right now, the Proud Boys and other white supremacist groups are coming to rally in Philadelphia, right outside the National Museum of American Jewish History. This is unacceptable. facebook.com/events/17128121…

The scenes of flooding from Gaza are heart-wrenching. In spite of all that has changed in the past three years, the genocide continues unabated. Do not forget Gaza. Please give what you can
Listen to the pain in his voice. The endless suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
🚨Support Now 🚨 chuffed.org/project/113222-t…
Thousands of tents broke overnight, and this young boy in Zaytoun neighborhood is one of them. The Sameer Project is getting hundreds of calls and messages asking for support, and we don’t have the funds to do it!
The military occupation closed the Egyptian borders a few days ago, and there are no tents or tarps coming in. War profiteers supported by the military occupation are hoarding tents and tarps, and hiking the prices making it impossible for anyone to afford them.
Our choices are to feel hopeless and angry, or mobilize and help as much as we can. The Sameer Project chooses the latter but we NEED your urgent help.
Donate urgently to the General Fund and share the crisis in Gaza with everyone you know: chuffed.org/project/113222-t…

🇬🇧 “Is it now the Labour position that a genocide is not racist?”
Green Party leader Zack Polanski confronted Conservative and Labour politicians at the London Assembly on Thursday after Conservative Susan Hall introduced a motion condemning the Greens’ decision to define Zionism as racism.
Hall called the Green Party’s position “abhorrent” and argued it threatened Jewish Londoners.
Polanski, who is Jewish, accused Hall of weaponizing antisemitism and challenged Labour members over their government’s continued military support for Israel amid the genocide in Gaza.
The Assembly passed Hall’s motion 19–3, with just the three Green members voting against it.
