How could someone defend a $22,000 markup on a generic leukemia drug? I don’t know, but these super real drug pricing experts are giving it their all. 🤖

Retired fire captain Charlie Joseph discovered something frustrating about his CVS Caremark plan: He could buy a 90-day supply of his blood pressure meds at his local pharmacy for the same price the plan charged him for just 30 days. So he pays cash now. Charlie and his wife, Amye, are on opposite sides politically, but they agree on this: "We hate CVS." bit.ly/4rR5ApS

“Markets cannot discipline prices that they cannot see."
“Hip replacement in Boston costs $17,900 at one hospital, and at a nearby hospital, it costs $74,000 for the exact same surgery.” “Researchers have found MRI prices varying as much as ninefold within a single city.” RFK Jr. says Big Insurance has created a system where Americans can pay wildly different prices for the exact same care while the real cost stays hidden. “And one analysis found that 60% of insurer negotiated hospital rates were higher than the hospital’s own cash price.” “The insurance company, who is supposed to be negotiating for all of its members and beating down the price, has actually negotiated a price that is higher than if you just walked into that hospital off the street and asked for that procedure.” “So the whole system was corrupt.” “It was crooked.” “Markets cannot discipline prices that they cannot see.”

Once again @UHC @UnitedHealthGrp, How is it that your Medicare Part D plan only covers Brand Name Restasis eye drops vs. the many drastically less expensive generics in the market? Restasis costs around $630 a month for a pharmacy to purchase. I can buy the generic for around $25 a month. When insurance companies and their PBM cohorts keep favoring the more expensive options while excluding cheaper options, it then makes overall insurance costs continually climb higher every year… Higher premiums, higher deductibles, higher copays, etc.

Why does Medicare pay hospitals more for care that a doctor's office can provide for less? That payment system raises costs, rewards hospital takeovers, and leaves seniors with bigger bills. forbes.com/sites/sallypipes/…

9-ingredient imitation blueberries instead of the real thing… Big Food didn’t make a mistake here, this was a boardroom decision. They engineered a fake fruit, put a picture of a blueberry on the bag, and banked on the fact that most people will never flip it over and read the label. This is the food system we are living in — and it is making us sick. Always read your labels. Question the packaging. And know that REAL blueberries (the ones that actually FEED your brain, reduce inflammation, and support your gut) are worth every penny. You deserve real food.

DYK: More than 500 hospitals have failed to comply with federal price transparency rules. Patients deserve to know what their care will cost before the bill arrives. Congress should make transparency permanent — and enforce it. Read more: washingtonexaminer.com/resto…

The MS landscape is graying. This requires a shift in clinician approach to include comprehensive geriatric care principles. Integrating pharmacy, nutrition, urology can reduce ER visits and hospitalizations. doi.org/10.7224/1537-2073.20… @dr_sarahamorrow #aging #MultipleSclerosis
