As Cyclone Ditwah impacted communities across Sri Lanka, we mobilised support in some of the hardest-hit areas. In Koralaipattu, families faced severe flooding and displacement and in Mutur houses were submerged, forcing evacuations.
That is why, we rolled out assistance in partnership with HOPE and Selyn foundation, to implement a project funded by @AusHPship through @dfat to support cyclone-affected households in these 2 areas by addressing urgent needs in food security, nutrition, WASH and livelihoods.
In Walapane, our teams distributed household hygiene kits to 320 families in Suriyagahapathana, Ambaliyadda, Galkadapathana, and Mahauva. Helping them clean and restore their homes after Cyclone Ditwah.

Several villages were forced to evacuate to safe centres in Welikanda. Our team is coordinating with government authorities to provide #hygienekits to the affected families. Here is an update from Muthugala #SafeCentre where 153 families are sheltered in a primary school.

Kalpitiya has had ENOUGH!
Enough of wasted food.
Enough of malnutrition.
Enough of unchecked school meals & canteens.
With World Vision, over 1,700 children and adults took action together.
No child should go hungry, no meal should go to waste.

Look at these children, trying to renovate a village library that belongs to them. 💚
For nearly a decade, the building had been falling apart, taken over by weeds and even animals. Now, with care and hard work, it has been brought back to life.

The children also painted inspiring murals on the walls, with crucial messages about climate change and protecting the environment.
With community support and the Divisional Secretariat of Kalpitiya, the library begins a new chapter of hope.

Humanitarian work isn’t just one day.
It’s every step, every journey, every person we meet along the way. 🌍
It’s listening to communities, standing with children, and walking the less-travelled paths together every single day. 💛

#Plasticpollution is a serious threat to our health, farms, and climate. In Rideemaliyadda, women farmers and community groups supported by the #MihikathaLanka (මිහිකත ලංකා/பூமிப்பெண்) project stepped up — leading powerful activities to raise awareness and drive change. 1/2
They held sessions on how #plastic harms #farming, shared #ecofriendly tips, showed plastic-free alternatives in a mini exhibition, and led a cleanup walk through town! Local leaders, gov officers, and the Head of Policies all joined in. 2/2
