Junk food companies are doubling down on sport sponsorship to avoid the upcoming (and much delayed due to lobbying) ban on HFSS advertising before 9pm on TV.
Our kids’ heroes are advertising Hula Hoops, Redbull and Kit Kats while obesity prevalence in UK children is one of the highest in the world.
Super investigation by the @BMJLatest which highlights that this isn’t just obviously harmful - we have lots of evidence that this sort of sponsorship gives junk food firms a ‘health halo effect’ by making their products seem more acceptable and less harmful to consumers.

I know many athletes and teams really do their best to avoid this but we need mandatory regulation just as we have for cigarettes. Sport will survive and thrive without making the players push junk food onto the next generation.

A little rant from me in @Telegraph today. Nanny state? Well, maybe Nanny knows best.

🐣 The Easter weekend is fast-approaching, and if you're about to head to the shops to stock up on those essential sweet treats, then be warned - there's a bewildering array of increasingly outlandish flavours and styles to choose from out there.
But fear not, because @CamillaTominey and @kamalahmednews are joined by The Daily Telegraph's resident food columnist and taste tester @XantheClay on this edition of The Daily T to pick through the best and worst of this year's Easter food offerings.
Question for parents: what would like to be bought for Mother’s Day? (Apart from world peace obv: I’m after something that can be wrapped.) for a piece. Thank you. 🙏
This might be my new culling rule: “if I saw this in a second hand bookshop, would I buy it?”
It’s my absolute worst job: culling cookbooks because 2000 is my ceiling (literally). Some writers - who I love - have seven, eight, nine books. They’ll bring out another next year. I just can’t keep them all. But which three, say, to hold on to? 😩
Sooo… the owner of an @Airbnb I booked has told me it’s no longer available (on Christmas Day, thanks for that). Now she wants me to cancel the booking so she doesn’t pay a fee. But it’ll go on my history so I’ll look unreliable. No biggie, maybe. But what would you do?
UPDATE I dug my heels in (nicely) - and just had an email from @Airbnb apologising for the cancellation and offering a very generous compensation voucher so I won’t be out of pocket when I book somewhere else. Thank you all for firming my resolve. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It can make sense to buy brandy cream if you don’t have the right booze to hand. Here’s the 23 best and worst supermarket brandy creams for Christmas 2024 - telegraph.co.uk/food-and-dri…
podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcas… Listen to me, @CamillaTominey @kamalahmednews and @WilliamSitwell on the best and worst Christmas food. Spoiler: Will and I don't agree on *everything*
With thanks to @PollyRussell1 @sartorialfoodie @wholefwarrior for their time, wisdom and patience 🙏
