Contemporary schools and universities are the cause of affliction, the reason for becoming distant from Allah ﷻ and the deen, and a major cause of turning away from the Sharia of the Master of the Messengers. They are an entirely secularist and Westernising scheme. They are also destroying the future of young people, who spend a long portion of their lives studying to graduate, only to find nothing but a mirage and scraps. They end up with neither their deen nor their worldly life. And Allah is the One whose help is sought. They have also impoverished many fathers, even plunging some of them into debt, worries and even prisons. The result is zero. And Allah is the One whose help is sought. One of the greatest blessings Allah has bestowed upon us is their closure. Perhaps this will provide a genuine opportunity to discover the catastrophe and understand its true extent. It is also an opportunity to return sincerely to our deen and examine the enormous amount we have lost because of them: how many truths they have distorted, how many perceptions they have corrupted, how many poisonous ideas they have nurtured, how many Sharia-based values they have destabilised, and how much they have altered words, distorting them from their proper places and even beyond their proper contexts. How many secularists, degenerate individuals, people ignorant of the deen, and apostates they have elevated! How many wicked and immoral role models they have promoted! How many Muslim girls they have corrupted and led away from dignity, modesty and remaining in their proper place. And Allah is the One whose help is sought. Not to mention the environment itself, whose standards and criteria are worldly. The deen is merely on the sidelines there, and in some places it is mocked. Indeed, in some places, it is regarded as a cause of backwardness and regression, and an obstacle to progress and advancement. And Allah is the One whose help is sought. We have even come to resemble those who were deceived by Qarun, saying: “Indeed, he is certainly a man of great fortune.” Yet he had lost the deen. The same applies to those who were deceived in earlier times by the peoples of 'Ad and Thamud, Pharaoh, Haman, and so on. In such an environment, a person's worth is measured by the worldly possessions they have, rather than by their knowledge of the Qur'an, the knowledge taught by the Prophet ﷺ, and the knowledge of the noble Sahaba, may Allah be pleased with them. Likewise, today, our role models are those who possess authority, influence and wealth, as well as male and female entertainers, male and female athletes, and male and female actors.
