Specific Rules in Open Relationships
Recently, I spoke to a gay couple in a very healthy open relationship. What stood out to me was how much they communicated. They did regular check-ins, asked permission for everything, and constantly made sure they were on the same page.
One of their specific rules was that the bottom couldn’t have anyone else ejaculate inside him. That act was something reserved for the top within their relationship.
And honestly, I think that perfectly shows how personalized open relationships are. Different couples attach different meanings to different acts. What matters is not the rule itself. What matters is that both people understand it, respect it, and agree to it.
So if you’re entering an open relationship, OVERCOMMUNICATE. Talk about everything. Even the awkward things. Even the things that feel small or harmless. Because relationships usually don’t break from one giant mistake. They slowly crack from tiny unspoken assumptions.
