Making a hit is one thing. Making a record people still want to hear 10, 20 years later? That’s different. That’s what I’m aiming for as a producer. 🎚️

What’s one thing you miss about how reggae records USED to be made? 🎶🇯🇲 Live musicians? Arrangements? Songwriting? The mix? The riddims? Or do you think reggae records are actually better now? 👀

He changed radio, and music – at Jamaica
Barrington "Barry G" Gordon (26 Sep 1955– 29 Oct 2025), legendary #Jamaican disc jockey, radio personality, and master of ceremonies, born 71 years ago today, in St. Mary. Widely regarded as one of #Jamaica’s most influential broadcasters ever. Gordon attended Kingston College before joining the state-owned Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) in the late 1970s as a producer. He rose to prominence hosting Soapbox, a daily vox-pop programme, and the Saturday night Boogie Down Show, from which he took his enduring nickname, "the Boogie Man." Gordon achieved national stardom in the 1980s as host of 2 To 6 Supermix, a four-hour afternoon programme that made him Jamaica's top-rated disc jockey. He gained international recognition through his good-natured on-air "sound clashes" with British broadcaster David Rodigan, beginning in 1983, which built audiences across the United States, United Kingdom, and Japan. He is credited with helping launch the careers of dancehall artists including Yellowman and Beenie Man. After leaving JBC in 1987, Gordon worked at Radio Jamaica, Power 106, KLAS FM, and Hot 102, before a later career revival at Mello FM in Montego Bay. In 2010, he was appointed to the Order of Distinction for his contributions to broadcasting.

SILVERSTARSOUND.com official website This type of skill is acquired over years of practice. It may look simple, but it’s far from it. Originally known as toasting, this is a craft that takes timing, rhythm, delivery and experience.

RIP Clifton "Jackie" Jackson, #Jamaican bass guitarist whose playing helped define the sound of #ska, #rocksteady, and #reggae across six decades. Born in central #Kingston in March 1947, he was trained as a pianist before turning to bass, entering the music business as a session musician at Duke Reid's Treasure Isle studio during the rocksteady era of the mid-1960s. As a member of Reid's house band, the Supersonics, Jackson played on foundational hits including Alton Ellis's "Girl I've Got a Date," and went on to record with The Melodians, Ken Boothe, Ken Parker, and Desmond Dekker, as well as Bob Marley and the Wailers. From the early 1970s, Jackson became bassist for Toots and the Maytals, a role he held for more than fifty years, touring internationally alongside acts including the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt. He shared in the group's 2005 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. His bass lines influenced later reggae bassists such as Aston "Family Man" Barrett and Robbie Shakespeare. In 2018, the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association honored him for his contribution to the reggae industry. Jackson was married to Jamaican singer Karen Smith, who predeceased him. He died on 23 Sep 2026, at age 79. #Jamaica #Caribbean
