Happy National Poetry Day! We’ve loved showing wonder for our world and school community. After our walk, we wrote some poetry from the perspective of a place or object, showing wonder for how other things may see the world πŸ’πŸŒΊπŸŒ² @Literacy_Trust #nationalpoetryday2026

For our first English unit, we have written haikus about Autumn at our school. We spent our lesson on Friday publishing and illustrating our poems with watercolour. The results were beautiful! πŸ‚πŸπŸŒˆπŸŒ²

Then, this afternoon we made our orchard chutney! Last week, we picked, cleaned and sorted our fruit so this week was all about preservation. We began by peeling and chopping our pears and apples, as well as our other ingredients πŸŽπŸπŸ§…

Then for our favourite part: the tasting! We tried our chutney (after it had cooled a little!) with cheese and crackers. It was delicious and tasted even better knowing that the main ingredient - the apples and pears - have been grown by us here at school! πŸ˜‹πŸ™ŒπŸ«Ά

Finally, we packaged our chutney up into small tubs so we could take it home for our families to try. We were very excited to show off all our hard work and chat to our families about how we have been Guardians of our orchard. πŸ«™πŸŽπŸ

We started our morning with some work on what makes a good friend. We did some role play, acting out different scenarios and considering positive and negative ways to react. We worked to understand how we can be an even better friend 🫢🫢

This morning, we have been for an autumnal nature walk to explore nature in early autumn. We have used our senses to jot down anything we noticed, as well as reflecting spiritually on why we have awe for the world around us. πŸŒŸπŸπŸ‚

Teamwork makes the dream work! We worked together to make newspaper towers, aiming for it to be as tall and strong as possible. Teams were judged on the height of their tower, their ability to work well together and their creativity. πŸ‘πŸ—ΌπŸ™Œ

Our computing unit this half term is all about understanding how the systems work within search engines and computers. Today, we acted as web detectives, checking information across different sources and thinking carefully about the credibility of informationπŸ•΅οΈπŸ’»πŸ”

Today, to finish our first week back at school, we are celebrating #NationalReadaBookDay2026 πŸ“šπŸ“– We have read some of our Reading spine book together, which we voted for, and we have discussed the positive impact Reading can have for us.

We cannot wait for community day! We are supporting Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre and have worked hard all week making summer scented candles and wax melts. Be sure to pop into Year 5 and give us a visit! πŸ•―οΈπŸ’™ #courageousadvocates #wlcc
