12z ECMWF and EPS have uptrended on TC activity following #Yinxing. However, this uptick partially coincides with CCKW passage when numerical guidance historically tends to be to be aggressive in the medium range, including even the ECMWF.
Newly named Tropical Storm #Yinxing has a classical well defined curved band signature evident on IR alongside a central sense overcast with -80C cloud tops that is often a precursor for significant intensification.

Low level convergence associated with Invest #90W has increased, yielding an increase in central convection. Both major global models and their ensembles have significantly uptrended today and a typhoon in the vicinity of Luzon is a possibility later this week.

TY #KongRey (#LeonPH) is now in the process of making landfall in #Taitung County in the southeastern #Taiwan.
It is the largest tropical cyclone to affect the country since 1996.
As of 04Z (10 AM local time), its maximum sustained winds stand at 185 km/h, and gusting to 230 km/h according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Typhoon #Kong-Rey is undergoing a prolonged eyewall replacement cycle, with the inner eyewall remaining potent and the outer eyewall likely to interact with Taiwan.
Typhoon #Kong-rey has continued to organize this evening. The eye has gradually warmed, although loops show mesovorticies rotating around the eye. Latest satellite estimates generally support at least 130 kts, with SAB fixing at T7.0/140 kts.

Large tropical cyclones with large eyes rarely manage to clean themselves up enough to look "good", but #KongRey in the West Pacific seems to be pulling it off as very cold convection wraps uniformly around its warming eye!
Typhoon #Kong-rey has quickly intensified for its size over the last 24 hours. Clouded cloud tops have slowly been wrapping around the large eye. Satellite intensity estimates are quickly rising though probably too aggressive given its structure.

Shear on #Kongrey has finally subsided, and the storm is becoming more symmetric. However, its RMW is quite large right now, which suggests an intensification rate closer to a gradual rather than rapid pace in the near term. Still expected to be a very intense storm though.
