This will connect to students and involves historic precedents (pre-great depression, dot com bubble), current issues (social media influence) and government regulations (SEC and FED monitoring)
Yesterday proved yet again how important social studies education is. And not memorizing facts and dates, but understanding where our information comes from and how dangerous the spread of misinformation truly can be

the purpose of teaching history by the ever-brilliant @dimmerwahr "The aim of history class isn’t to get students to love or loathe their country. It’s to prepare them to live in it." washingtonpost.com/outlook/2…

Despite the craziness, 2020 has brought some pretty cool moments
Historic moment for college football 👏 Vanderbilt is turning to women's soccer player Sarah Fuller to be its place-kicker on Saturday. She will become the first woman to participate in a Power 5 football game. (via @VandyFootball)

At the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, the treaty of Versailles ended World War I. Take the time to remember all those who serve and have served #VeteransDay m.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqba0I…

As a former coach and player, this needs to happen more at all levels. I applaud the San Diego Loyal for forfeiting (a game they were easily winning, to advance in the playoffs) to stand against hatred in sports. All coaches and athletes should follow their lead at all levels
The San Diego Loyal walked off the field in protest Wednesday night, saying a Phoenix Rising player used an anti-gay slur directed at openly-gay midfielder Collin Martin. Manager Landon Donovan discussed the incident with the referee and Phoenix head coach Rick Schantz.

Just a follow up on how important it is to teach students, no matter how young, the importance of holding educated discussions and debates on things they may disagree about even if it’s is what is Taylor swifts most important record
This presidential debate shows why it’s so important to teach and promote discussion and discourse in a respectful and fact based format in our classrooms

There is some analogy to teaching and distance learning in this putt from yesterday’s US Open
Some teacher friends issued a challenge: Come up with 1-pager (no tiny type either!) that helps them & their students make better decisions on the web. Hope it's useful! docs.google.com/document/d/1…

After 9/11 the country came together and united after unspeakable tragedy - that’s one lesson we can continue to teach our students today that may be more applicable then ever #NeverForget

Make your ice breaker/get to know you skill related - give students 3 minutes to find an artifact that best represents their last 6 months. Have them share and discuss the importance of evidence and artifacts in learning about the past

As the Bard of Avon himself said “if I can’t do it, homie it can’t be done” - let’s get after it this week before students and parents see what hard work and dedication does to an entire system

With many teachers returning to this “new normal” today, I think we should be breaking every rule we have been living with the last 5 months...
