This is not an ANC defence post. It's a data post.
For weeks, 30 years of measurable state building has been waved away with anecdotes, potholes and headlines.
So here are the national numbers. Not just Jo'burg. The whole country. ๐๐พ
Our population grew from about 40m to 63.5m. Services had to outrun that growth. They did:
โข Electricity for lighting: 58% โ 95% of households
โข Piped water inside the home: 32% โ 60%
โข Improved sanitation: 62% โ 84%
โข Adults with no schooling: 19% โ 7%
โข Degree holders: 649,000 โ nearly 3 million
โข Black graduates: 188,000 โ 1.7 million
โข About 5 million housing opportunities delivered
โข 26.5 million grant beneficiaries, including nearly 13 million children
โข Life expectancy: from about 52 at the height of AIDS to nearly 67, via the world's largest ARV programme
โข 8 in 10 South Africans online, nearly 2 mobile connections per person
โข A real economy about 85% bigger than in 1994
โข 12GW+ of renewables contracted via REIPPPP, a state-designed programme that brought in private capital
None of this was luck. It was built by an ANC-led state, with business at the table, out of a sanctions-era wreckage.
The fatigue is real. Unemployment is real. Failing municipalities are real, and we should say so. But tiredness must not make us blind. Thirty years ago millions had no lights, no water in the yard, no access to basic healthcare. Today they do. Whoever tells you nothing changed wants you to hate your own progress.
A pothole trends for three days. 5 million housing opportunities never trend at all. Both are facts. Only one gets counted.
To business: this market was built here. Talking it down is not analysis. It's a short position on your own balance sheet.
Lies have short legs. I'm ready for the debate. Which of these numbers do you dispute? Reply with your source.
Data, not vibes.

A large part of the problems South Africa is facing are caused by our โeconomistsโ wrongly equating the state with a company or a household.
The state as monopoly rand issuer gains nothing from rand profit, and loses nothing when it makes a rand loss.
What matters is how the stateโs spending (rand creation) and taxation (rand destruction) affects rand users (households and businesses), in terms of supply and distribution of rand (which increase demand), services, infrastructure etc (which reduce rand user costs), inflation, employment etc.
Our backward economists pretend the state depends on rand from rand users, and even that the state should try make a profit. State profit or debt reduction just means reducing the supply of rand or govt bonds in private sector hands.
That can be very counter productive.

They are lazy to think critically and analyze a subject for what it truly is. They are driven by sensationalism driven by media. Their anger on ANC clouds their judgement. We are all angry at ANC but that doesn't mean we must become fools along the process of that anger

I'm old enough to remember a time when "NO ONE had supported Apartheid" in South Africa. We were told it was innocent ignorance and helplessness that kept the NP in power for over 4 decades. Its wild to see the swing to glorification and defence of the same regime in my lifetime.

"Left wing violence is the problem in America. Charlie Kirk was murde*ed by a left wing radical. President was almost kil*ed.
We have a real crisis where there are far too many left wing people who don't want to disagree, but want to try kill their fellow citizens"

Clever Blacks: Apartheid was better.
You must have been part of the 10% that the system was built for, because for the Black majority, your "propaganda" is a rewrite of a crime against humanity.
In 1981, there was 1 doctor for every 330 whites, but only 1 for every 91,000 Blacks. Infant mortality for Black babies was 20% compared to 2.7% for whites. That wasn't healthcare, it was a death sentence by design.
Have you forgotten the Pass Laws? Black people were arrested for not carrying a dompas. We couldn't even walk in a "white" area after dark without being hunted like a criminal.
In 1982, the state spent R1,211 on a white child and only R146 on a Black child. They didn't want us "educated" they wanted us as a servant. Today, Black university graduates have increased 16-fold (from 8k to over 470k Bachelor-qualified youth). That is progress you canโt fake with nostalgia.
Under Job Reservation laws, Black people were legally barred from skilled work to protect white mediocrity. We weren't "employed" we were exploited.
The fact that you are nostalgic for a system where Pieter Groenewald was a National Party MP tells us everything. He left the NP because he rejected our right to vote. He co-founded a party for a white 'Volkstaat' and threatened 'Civil War' over Land.

White South Africans like talking kak that Black people canโt run government and accuse us of running the country down.
They forget that they couldnโt run government, which served only 15% of the population (i.e. 4,5 million whites).
Their corrupt apartheid government by 1985 was bankrupt and had defaulted on loans. They had no money to pay their debts.
Inflation rose to 15%, foreign investors fled and the JSE was closed for a week.
More whites also fled after the collapse of apartheid.
The ANC will all its faults and corruption, have not bankrupted government while trying to take care of the 60 million of us.
History has no blank pages.

People should create employment, that's what he meant, he's right, a majority of South Africans suffer from entitlement.

Over the last year, govt has spent R125 billion, financed by SARB de facto money creation. The rand has strengthened, bond yields have dropped and inflation has remained at historic sustained lows.
The โeconomistsโ that claimed that SARB financing of more of govt spending would lead to hyperinflation, all have egg on their faces.

South Africa is net lender to the rest of the world. SA has a positive net investment position of R2,5 trillion rand, which means the value of SAn investment offshore is worth R2,5 trillion more than foreign investment in SA.
SAns have R7 trillion invested in offshore portfolio assets.
SAn corporations have R1,8 trillion savings in SAn banks. Total SAn bank deposits = 5 trillion.
SAโs govt debt is owed 90% in sovereign currency โ only 10% of SAs govt debt is forex denominated, and govtโs forex reserves = 2x govtโs forex debt.
SA is not dependent on any other nation for money.
SA has its own sovereign currency, a central bank and a strong, well capitalised banking system.
We are quite capable of financing whatever productive investment we need ourselves.
"We do not seek your approval for our path. Our path is our own, chosen by our people and guided by our sovereign laws. But we do seekโand we will always extendโa hand of respectful partnership."
Well why then ask other countries for money or assistance? Why do you say this as if we can survive on our own?
Clearly we can't, look at what USAID and AGOA did for South Africa, without it our unemployment rate will go even higher than 40% and more people will die from HIV/AIDS than ever before.
Stop thinking that we are on equal footing with the USA. We are not, the sooner you can understand and accept that the better for South Africa.
