Oof, 4 weeks into my search, I can confirm that being on the candidate side of hiring is awful. Companies don't remotely seem to be thinking about candidate experience 🤯

I'm a good friend if what you look for in a friend is encyclopedic knowledge of paranormal events in the exact part of the desert you are driving through on your last minute, late night, solo roadtrip (@WendEclair surely agrees)

One time I snuck into a tour of Twitter HQ in SF with a delegation from France. My plan fell apart towards the end of the visit when someone asked me a question in French, a language I do not speak.

Wait till they find out their companies are actually entirely just people.

.@ZJHadley's course on having difficult conversations at work is incredible, and it's part of the Gather membership. It's the kind of thing I desperately wish I'd had earlier in my career. You need to be in here with us.

This week I wrote about "gravitas" - a skill that relates to executive presence, authenticity, and integrity, and never, ever involves carrying a sink into your new workplace. zjhadley.com/read/the-authen…

Still, after you read the Gravitas Guide you can also read this review of Atmosfear, because the Gatekeeper truly has the ability to command respect and attention unseen by the board games of subsequent generations. denofgeek.com/culture/lookin…

Yes, I picture the Gatekeeper's face every time I talk about gravitas.
Quick Salary script to use on your boss. "I really enjoy working here and I’ve loved the trust you've shown me. I feel that the scope of my work has expanded and my responsibilities and my contributions have increased too. I’d like to talk about reviewing my compensation.’”

Years of experience requirements on job descriptions is lazy. I've played basketball for 32 years. 5 years in a league. You DO NOT want me on your team, I assure you.

Mine is a single screen movie theater (and coffee shop).
I don't know a single person who works in tech and hasn't seriously thought about quitting and opening up a coffee shop in a small town in the middle of nowhere
No one who uses initials as a first name has ever wanted you to ask them what it stands for.
