He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means that the cat will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 What my friends at ACC say about me: Tuna appreciates attention and petting, and is very people social - however he has shown major improvement related to his threshold for petting and interactions -however it should be noted that he may have the potential for overstimulation, has a high level of energy, and is very demanding of petting. Any potential adopter should have experience with overstimulation, be capable of reading body language, and know how to interact and end petting/interactions before Tuna has a chance to escalate. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home. My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I have potential behavior challenges that staff will address with you when you meet me. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! I am playful and cute! I am not one to sit still! 🆘🆘 NOUGAT (ID 268160), 12 YO, MALE– IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as an agency on 10/14/2026 – OWNER WENT INTO CARE. 🆘🆘 😿 😿 😿 😿 🆘🆘 UPDATE – UPDATE – NOUGAT CAME IN WITH HIS BONDED HOUSEMATE, MARZIPAN (ID 268161)- 10 YO FEMALE, SENIOR ALERT– NOT YET ON EPL- LET’S KEEP THEM TOGETHER🆘🆘 ➡️TBD 10/24/26 ➡️ SENIOR ALERT ➡️ MEDICAL PRIORITY – NEEDS MORE CARE AND ATTENTION THAN THE SHELTER CAN PROVIDE –😱😱😱 ➡️ 🆘🆘 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List – VERY URGENT – 🆘🆘 😱🔥🔥😱 ➡️ 9 DAYS IN SHELTER – TOO LONG – TIME IS RUNNING OUT ➡️ NOUGAT IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL REASONS - Nougat is diabetic with diabetic neuropathy. He has been started on treatment for his diabetes. Nougat will need daily maintenance with their medical condition and further follow up with outside vet care. Nougat has allowed all handling. This evaluation/diagnosis means that NOUGAT will be given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption.🔥🔥🔥🔥 A volunteer writes: Twelve year old Nougat and ten year old Marzipan were brought to the Manhattan Care Center as their owner was taken into care. They are two gentle souls who must have been such wonderful companions. They are calm, well mannered, welcoming of staff and volunteers (Marzipan is a bit shyer than Nougat), leaning into pets and even purring. Both pets seem to have been well cared for. They have a good weight, a thick and shiny coat, are already spayed and neutered and know their way around people. Nougat, though was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and is being treated for it. Marzipan is apparently healthy. Both have as expected, senior teeth. Nougat and marzipan are great names for the two housemates as they are so sweet but Marzipan(made of almond paste) is usually white, so I wonder...Marzipan and Nougat would love to go home, may be it could be with you and together(if at all possible)....They are both waiting for their forever at the Manhattan Care Center.
