What happens when assumptions behind #supplychains no longer hold? The Sept./Oct. Inside Supply Management® tackles tariffs, geopolitical risk, rail and demand planning — areas where yesterday’s playbook may not be enough. @ISM members can check it out ➡️ ismworld.org/magazine
It arrived later than in recent years, but oatmeal season is finally here in #Arizona.
That burning smell currently drifting across the college football and athletics landscape is the smoldering wreckage of "the selfish cowards at Notre Dame need to join a conference” talking point. #CFBPlayoff
NEW: Miami President Joseph Echevarria on potential conference realignment and how the university would respond if the PCSA passes the House, via @RossDellenger:
"If we have to go independent, I like our chances because we are a national brand."

ICYMI ⛽ Record diesel prices are a #supplychains warning. With inventories tight, refineries strained and Middle East shipping routes disrupted, #procurement teams face higher freight costs, longer lead times and more risk. Here are signals to watch. hubs.li/Q04BmbRG0

ICYMI 📰 #AI is changing demand planning in paper mills — and the lessons extend across process industries and beyond technology. Better data, demand sensing and AI scheduling can cut forecast error, inventory and #supplychains disruption recovery time. hubs.li/Q04Bmbj00
And if you interpret “last year” as last season, Knicks-Spurs averaged 20.8 million — nearly four times as many viewers! #NBA #CFB

ICYMI 💡 IT contracts aren’t just about price anymore. As #AI and cloud tools become critical to #supplychains, procurement must negotiate for cybersecurity, data control, cost visibility, continuity and flexibility — before renewal pressure hits. hubs.li/Q04y9dNP0
I am so rarely right about stuff like this, so I would think the #Brewers have to be feeling good about the next round, too. #NLCS #Postseason #ThisIsMyCrew
It might be because of my long-time membership in the Pat Murphy appreciation society, but I have a feeling that this is finally going to be the #Brewers’ year, at least for the NL flag. #ThisIsMyCrew
I’ve been asked a handful of times the sporting event I most regret not seeing in person or on TV, whether it was a matter of simply missing it or it was before my time. My answer comes back real quick, in four words: Harvey Haddix, Hard Luck. #Pirates #MLB
"My main aim was to win.
I was more tired than nervous.
All I know is that we lost.
What's so historic about that?
Didn't anyone else ever lose a thirteen inning shutout?
Not a day goes by that somebody doesn’t ask me about that game.
I think I got more notoriety from it because I lost."
Harvey “The Kitten” Haddix.
"I called Harvey that night in the visiting clubhouse.
I told him:
"I realize I got what I wanted, a win, but I'd really give it up because you pitched the greatest game that's ever been pitched in the history of baseball.
It was a damned shame you had to lose."
Lew Burdette.
Most famous in baseball history for the game he pitched for the Pirates against the Milwaukee Braves on May 29, 1959.
In that game he threw 12 perfect no-hit, no walk, no run innings, only to lose the game in the 13th inning.
Haddix retired 36 consecutive batters in 12 innings.
Considered by many to be the best pitching performance in MLB history.
First pitcher in MLB history to take a perfect game beyond nine innings.
Braves lead-off batter Felix Mantilla reached on a throwing error by Pirates 3B Don Hoak, Eddie Mathews sacrificed Mantilla to 2nd, Hank Aaron was walked intentionally and Joe Adcock hit a 3-run home run.
Joe Adcock, however, passed Aaron on the bases and was only credited with a 1-run double.
The Braves were stealing signs from catcher Smokey Burgess.
Haddix was told later that the Brewers had stolen the Pirates' signs and were tipping off their hitters from the bullpen.
All of Milwaukee's hitters except for Hank Aaron, who refused to look for the bullpen's signals, knew what was coming and still couldn't hit it.
The first change coming to college football: rivalry games will move to midseason. If you think Ohio State, Alabama or anyone else will pull out all the stops on Thanksgiving weekend when they are safely in the #CFBPlayoff, you're lying to yourself. #CFB
Breaking: The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand to 24 teams, sources tell @PeteThamel.
The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.

ICYMI 🛤️ Rail freight is getting another look from shippers after four rough years, but it’s more than a comeback story. The real test isn’t winning freight from trucks — it’s proving rail can deliver the reliability and flexibility to keep the business. hubs.li/Q04y94_Z0

ICYMI ✒️ Geopolitical risk is changing what #supplychains contracts need to do. Sanctions, #tariffs, shortages and quality problems demand more than boilerplate — they require terms built around visibility, contingencies and changing conditions. hubs.li/Q04y8M230
Sorry, everyone saying Kurt Warner is wrong. He won the starting job over Matt Leinart during training camp in 2008. That’s not what “next man up” means. The @ArizonaRattlers winning an ArenaBowl with their backup QB after Sherdrick Bonner was injured is a better example.
In 1997, Donnie Davis led the Rattlers to a convincing win over the Iowa Barnstormers and was the game’s MVP. Hmmm, who was Iowa’s starting QB that night? youtube.com/watch?v=1axg7UtC…
This decision is best left to Max Fried, Mason Miller and their spouses. But as a #DBacks player once told me: “We do not have normal jobs. Not only are 24 other guys, but an entire organization and fan base are depending on us,” especially if you’re a superstar. #Postseason
