Can someone at @_VGen_ or @_muncha_ directly, please explain to me how brokers misleading their clients into believing they are solo artists (aka making clients believe the person they are talking to is the person doing the art) is not fraudulent activity?
Fraudulent activity is any deliberate act of dishonesty, deceit or misrepresentation for personal gain OR to cause financial or legal harm to another.
These brokers were intentionally being misleading for personal gain.
Why does this now fall onto the victims of these brokers to get refunds on their own? Either through their bank or PayPal, many of us are past refund window via both methods.
My commissions with these brokers were requested and completed OVER a year ago. That is well beyond, not only PayPal’s refund period, but also my bank’s.
I had no knowledge of the brokers until MONTHS after my comm, and no proof linking my “artist” to these brokers until just a couple months ago. Which was already past the one year mark of my commissions to begin with.
Please do not misunderstand my frustration here, I am beyond grateful for everything you guys have done about this situation up to this point. I just can’t get over the fact that myself, and countless others, have been defrauded and essentially scammed on your website, and it feels as though you are telling us we’re on our own now.
DETAILS RE: UNETHICAL BROKERS
After a thorough review of our moderation processes, we have discovered a bug in our reporting system that's been grouping new reports with old watchlist items instead of surfacing them to the moderation queue.
This means that while we were already actively banning unethical brokers and our community have been reporting them to us, we often never saw the proof that we needed to tie all these pseudonym accounts together - effectively allowing them to ban evade.
While it is really unfortunate that this bug has hindered our ability to moderate effectively for a while, the good news is that those reports are not lost. We have resurfaced the missing reports and are going through the backlog to take swift action against the bad actors and their affiliates.
Of our 200,000+ artists, we have identified ~300 associated accounts so far who we have now removed from the site. We have strong conviction in the actions that we have taken on all these accounts. From misrepresenting the nature of their account and services (ie pretending to be individuals when they’re a group, presenting a service as custom when it reuses a base), to ban evading and intentionally inviting bad actors, these are not the people VGen was built to support or advocate for, and for breaking our ToS, they have all been removed.
Although most commissions will not be eligible for refunds since the majority of these accounts were suspended due to ToS violations and association with bad actors and not explicitly fraudulent commission activity, if you paid via VGen Payments and have not yet released the withheld funds or you paid via PayPal and your payment is within the Buyer Protection Period, you may create a ticket to ask for a refund or one-time payment dispute approval.
However, if you paid via VGen Payments and have already released the funds or you paid via PayPal and your payment has passed its Buyer Protection Period, we will unfortunately not be able to recoup those funds and for that we are very sorry.

I too also purchased from a broker acting as a independent artist, a couple of them actually. Mine was on other platforms, but I had recently started purchasing on Vgen and that's how I learned about jruhub, was browsing vgen artists on twitter. Anyways, long story short the other platforms (Etsy and Fiverr) had the same answer, Since it was out of their refund period I would need to try with my bank. With Fiverr, they offered me $45 in credit for their platform. Etsy kinda just told me I was SOL.
Maybe Vgen could offer something to accounts effected? A portion of funds lost as credit on the account? A couple discount codes for services (that vgen covers) for other artists? I think it would honestly be a case by case basis, and if the account was already tagged as a broker on their platform or not. (I know in your case they were not.) but I do think there is a middle ground here.
This conversation definitely needs to be had.

I'm so proud of the community for standing up and not backing down about the #jruhub problem happening on @_VGen_
I know this has been an on going issue that has been brought up since before EAH was even created, but after 8 long months of documenting everything we finally were able to provide Vgen enough evidence to link these accounts together to allow them to Suspend/Ban the accounts under their terms of service.
This work won't be over, #jruhub will continue to try to get onto the platform(s) with new accounts, and they will definitely try to move platforms, Keep your eye peeled and keep reporting!
