I am teaching a course (Masters level) on "good research practices". One aspect is: "academic kindness": giving positive feedback, emailing a colleague about their article with a compliment, etc. I am looking for literature students can read on the topic. Any thoughts?

Here's an email my supervisor wrote while I was in the Valley of Shit, 2 years into my PhD. He was right. Everyone needs a cheerleader. If you are in the Valley of Shit w/ a mutinous part of your brain, please know you're doing great. Don't give up! @AcademicChatter

It is election season. The world is busy and rubbish. But it is also Christmas. So take a breather and let me tell you a story about London, trains, love and loss, and how small acts of kindness matter. I'm going to tell you about the voice at Embankment Tube station.

If there's one piece of advice for getting through the PhD and continuing in academia, it's this: take time to recharge! #phdchat #AcademicChatter @_AJDavis writes about this too, check her out.
Pushing yourself to your limits will only leave you exhausted. Work hard, but also take the time to recharge — there will be more benefits than you realize. s.hbr.org/2l22nXx

PhD Viva ("defence") prep begins imminently. Those who've done theirs... Where did you start? What were you glad you had done in terms of prep? What would be your top tip? Currently not feeling overly anxious, but definitely not ready either. #phdlife #phdchat #academicchatter

I knew I didn't want to continue in academia by my third year, but didn't quit the program. In fourth year a committee member told me, if you write another 100 pages you'll have a PhD for the rest of your life. That got me to finish the dissertation.
Have you ever thought about quitting your PhD program? For those who have graduated - what got you through?

Since we're all (rightly) obsessing about the ancient Greek D&G fashion show, this seems like the right time to rank every outfit in order of how much I want to wear them to teach/conference. I will also be declaring what sort of ancient world energy they have. This is definitive
