Credit where it's due to Mark McKenzie. Took over from where Graham Wright left off, with ease. Meek for O'Meara. Weddle at Pick 18. Mraz at 35. Bailey MacDonald at 51. Jai Newcombe from Poowong. Ginnivan, D'Ambrosio & Chol for old rope. And then Battle, Barrass, Merrett & King. No panic buys. No overpaying. Just elite list management. #AFLTrade
"Clearly this year is a lesser deal for Zach Merrett.."
"He spent the extra 12 months at the Bombers and Hawthorn had to stump up less.."
"Essentially it's the extra 1st Rounder that was on offer last year, that's missing this year as part of this deal"
"I just wonder why they (Essendon) didn't do this last year, if that is their Philosophy (to go to the Draft)?"🔮😂

"I think it's a good deal for all clubs to be honest."

Quick recap:
2025 Trade Period - Essendon knocks back 10, 22, Future 1st (This years 15) + Hustwaite. Demanded 4x early 1sts, Weddle, Dunstall & Waverley. Claimed they’d won Trade Period by forcing Merrett to stay. Then stripped him of the captaincy, pushed him out of midfield & won the Wooden Spoon.
2026 Trade Period - “Don’t be cute again.” 4pm Day 1: 15, 25 & Future 2nd. DONE.
Essendon just shit the bed! 💩😂🖕

Some really interesting and highly relevant insights in Scott Clayton’s book about his time as one of the best List Managers in the business.
He says the good clubs don’t need their President interfering with list management, trade, draft decisions.
Welsh has just proved this point. Essendon are not a good club. #AFLTrade @traderadio @HawkTalkPod @HawksInsiders
‘WOULDN’T WANT TO FUMBLE...’ 👀
Essendon president Andrew Welsh has issued a BLUNT warning to Hawthorn over its repeated pursuit of Zach Merrett.
It means there’s a world where the Bombers say no again if the Hawks get too “cute”. 😳

Essendon aren't negotiating. They're holding Merrett to ransom & cutting off their own nose to spite their face. #AFLTrade @traderadio
25yo Neale to Brisbane:
Pick 6 & 19 + Pick 55 ✅️

According to Essendon fans, having 12 months left on a contract means a 31yo Merrett is worth more than prime Lachie Neale. #AFLTrade @traderadio
Band 3 Compensation to Sydney, for a 27yo on a 5yr/4M+ deal. And Essendon fans think holding Merrett for another year til he is 32yo before going to Hawthorn, will net them Band 1? 😂🔫
The Blues get Joel Amartey! 💙
The Sydney Swans will receive a Second Round compensation selection (currently #36) in the 2026 Telstra AFL Draft as compensation.
Brought to you by Continental Tyres of Australia.
This looks dire. So dire that Jake Riccardi saw this post and signed a 4yr extension at GWS! 🤮😂 #AFLTrade @traderadio
Is this how Essendon's best 23 shapes up in 2027? 🤔
IN: Jake Riccardi, Sam Marshall
OUT: Zach Merrett, Jordan Ridley
The Dons also welcome back the likes of Nic Martin and Brayden Fiorini from injury.

"STAGGERING! JUST STAGGERING!"
Manchester City have been found guilty of breaking the majority of the 115 financial rules they were accused of breaching, sources have told BBC Sport.
The Athletic is reporting that the sanctions have not been decided but that the independent panel has reached its decision, finding them guilty of all but one count.
Sources have told BBC Sport a decision has been made in the case, and City have been found guilty of the majority of breaches.
The Premier League declined to comment.
Asked if the report was correct, City did not comment either way.
