Thought I'd make a pinned thread of all my transit timelines for any newcomers and to just to keep it all in one place! Folder with them in High Resolution: drive.google.com/drive/folde… Toronto/TTC xitter.cf/_ChanFace/status/13607…
I made a TTC construction timeline! We're all familiar with those "evolution of the TTC map" videos, but I always wondered how long each project took, from construction starting to opening, instead of just a timeline of opening dates. Below will be a thread of takeaways:

🚲💚🧡 7,000,000 rides. What an incredible year it's been so far. To celebrate our 7 millionth ride of 2026, we surprised Lucas with a Bike Share Toronto membership at Jarvis & Carlton. Why there? Because Jarvis & Carlton is where it all began. It's home to the very first Bike Share Toronto station. That milestone got us reflecting on the journey. Since launching in 2011, Bike Share Toronto has grown into a network of 1,074 stations and 11,890 bikes across the city. Today, riders use Bike Share Toronto to commute, connect with their communities, and explore the city, with Centre Island Station now the busiest station in the entire network. This milestone belongs to every rider who's been part of the journey over the last 15 years. Thank you for riding with us. Here's to the next million. Keep riding. 🚲 #BikeShareTO #CyclingTO

In Toronto, more people are killed and injured by vehicles than from violent crimes. Anyone who claims to be a champion of safety, but who isn't advocating for safer roads, is just fear mongering or dog whistling.

These 32 #BloodBikes commemorate the 32 people killed on Bloor, Yonge & University in 20-years before bike lanes were built. After bike lanes were installed only one tragic loss of life has occurred in 6-years since 2020. Bike lanes keep EVERYONE save, not only people cycling.

Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests. @DesmondCole reports from the frontlines of the showdown in Toronto.

The Toronto Police arrested Aly Van Wyck-Smart, a Paralympian with cerebral palsy who was protecting part of the bike lane from removal. On the bright side, the construction workers put the bollards back and said we'd won for the day.

Brad Bradford would call his council colleagues "bitches" and make his staffers cry. Very grateful for local journalism reporting by @royinori at this time.

(1/5) THREAD: For everybody panicking about this poll, let's look at the accuracy of the 2022 TO Centre poll from Forum Research, where they also have a tiny and unequal sample size that skews extremely old. Poll vs Real: Chris Moise: 27% vs 48% Nicki Ward 39% vs 18%

(4/5) Having 13 people for 25-36 and 35-44 is also just not a good sample size to get accurate results. You also have to remember that the type of people to pick up polling calls and actually answer... well are not representative of the average person.

(5/5) Curran has KWT's endorsement & is working to get out the KWT supporter vote. KWT has deep connections to the community. He also has the support of the Labour Council, which means more ppl knocking on doors. His ground game is strong which is what matters, not just online.

The southbound bike lane on University Avenue will become bi-directional soon! This will maintain safe cycling access during watermain work that has reduced the east side of University to one northbound lane without a bike lane. City of TO has also provided an alternate detour.
Starting September 28, University Avenue will be reduced to one northbound lane between Armoury Street and College Street for watermain replacement work. The City is replacing two watermains that are more than 100 years old to help keep water service reliable for hospitals, businesses and residents. One northbound lane will remain open during construction, and access to hospitals, healthcare facilities, businesses and properties will be maintained. Emergency vehicles and pedestrians will continue to have access through the area. Extended work hours will be in effect, with work taking place between 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday – and on weekends as needed – to minimize traffic disruption and shorten the project duration. If you're travelling through this section of University Avenue, plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as traffic delays are expected. Construction is expected to continue through spring 2027. Stay tuned for more updates. Learn more about the project: toronto.ca/UniversityQueensP…
