Here’s a drill from our winter training at SXU that I never got around to posting. It’s crazy what a simple mindset shift can do for a hitter. One of the biggest issues I saw in the cage was players trying to swing harder and force power instead of moving efficiently.

Sometimes helping a hitter improve isn’t about telling them to swing harder—it’s about creating an environment that allows them to feel and discover more efficient movement on their own.

When the ankle weights came off, their bodies felt lighter and were able to move more freely and efficiently. Watch the difference between the swings with the weights and without them, and notice how the body naturally adapts when given the opportunity to move better.

To address that, I had our guys put on 10-pound ankle weights during their swings. The goal wasn’t to make them stronger—it was to make them aware of how they move. The added weight forced them to find more efficient movement patterns and better sequencing throughout the swing.
