I also recently wonder if the bottomless malice within the human race that Netero refers to Pariston.
We’ve effectively seen his “superpower” so far as being able to wield people’s own insufficiencies (Cheadle/Mizai) and flaws (Netero/Teradein) against them. It can expand.

Just thinking about how immensely proficient in nen the game masters of Greed Island must be to keep the entire island functioning. What do you mean 11 people built the infrastructure and control the maintenance of spells and NPCs in the whole game LOL

Hunter x hunter really is the most unlarpable shonen cuz its so obvious if someone just hasnt watched it since they say the stupidest shit
I feel like it’s pointless to wonder if Ging could beat Meruem because if Meruem offered him a conversation like he did Netero they’d actually just yap for days
I find it hilarious, that’s there’s truth in how people can’t connect with Gon as a main character because he’s more real than idealist hero. There’s a great commentary on people in that - they struggle to like a character they share obvious things with
I also like that Gon doesn’t try to understand the struggles of everyone who opposes him. He doesn’t feel empathy when he doesn’t think it’s warranted, and he doesn’t try to understand people’s motives if he doesn’t like them. Togashi really didn’t write him as a role model in the conventional sense, which is why readers often struggle to connect with Gon because of his selective kindness toward others. He’s still fundamentally kind, open-hearted, and empathetic, but these qualities are portrayed in a much more down-to-earth way.

gon not being as popular, inspirational or maybe loved overall as some other shonen MCs is because his morality is not validated by the story narrative. gon's morality is not absent from the story tho, it's just not granted automatic narrative legitimacy

hxh actually interrogating the “determined, stubborn, radically optimistic MC” trope and highlighting the real flaws in those personality types (selfishness, hypocrisy, self-harm) when every other mangaka just writes them that way for aura farming moments

Why am I so smart?
Bring me the HxH mutuals that want the theorycraft and be fascinated by Togashi’s storytelling. Other than that I’m cool I don’t need the shonentwt cavemannery a lot of this series fanbase engages in

if anything hxh is actually underrated but they’re not ready for that conversation yet
The most pressing question regarding Ging Freecss to me, is why did he have Gon? What does Gon mean to him? In fact - what is Gon? A genuine son between mother and father? A contingency? A clone? A wish? A curse? All we know is Ging is meticulous, and Gon MUST be significant.
I’ll be honest. I don’t know what people’s obsession is with putting down other anime to prop up their own. It’s not just in insults, it’s like people can’t let other people compliment ANOTHER series in peace.
I feel like it’s illness. Truly.
