Pixar doesn't use GPUs (much).
Their render farm compute is mostly CPUs with a ton of cores + memory, using AVX-512 and SSE 4.2 optimizations when appropriate to optimize render time.
Why?
GPU render compute doesn't speed things up as much as you might expect. Yes, in certain instances, you can get a 3-4x benefit, however you have to fit all the polys in GPU memory. Paging back out to system RAM brings you back down to CPU speeds.
Scenes can often contain > 150,000,000 polys. Only very recently have gpu memory sizes gotten big enough to be "worth it" over CPU rendering, and even then, it's often less flexible/tolerant of mixing older architectures in the cluster.

Richard Stallman, the man behind GNU, copyleft, and way too many others accolades to even list, announced at GNU 40 that he has cancer.
Fortunately, he reports that it is slow growing and completely manageable. He says he isn't going anywhere.
He is 70.

Today we filed an official complaint against @henet (Hurricane Electric) with the @AGOWA (Attorney General of Washington State) over their censorship of legal and protected speech. We have also reached out to the @EFF who has previously shown support in protecting the foundation of free speech on the internet.
Free speech is for everyone, even those you disagree with. Dropping routes to a subnet in the middle of the night with no notice and with no prior complaints or concerns expressed is not a way to do business. Under Washington State House Bill 2282, ISPs may not "Block lawful content"

If you use Wikipedia, you've seen pop-ups like this. If you're like me, you may have donated as a result.
Wikipedia is an amazing website, and the appeals seem heartfelt. But I've now learnt the money isn't going where I thought...
