GOR MAHIA’S FIRST DEFEAT: A WAKE-UP CALL FOR OTETE Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run has come to an end but the 2-1 defeat to KCB should concern the technical bench for reasons beyond the three points lost. The first problem was defensive organisation. KCB found spaces far too easily with Gor’s defenders repeatedly caught ball-watching and reacting late. There was poor marking, little communication and a lack of urgency in dealing with danger. Both goals exposed a backline that needs serious attention. Going forward, Gor had possession but lacked the cutting edge. They registered 16 attempts with only three on target. The problem was not getting into attacking positions; it was making those opportunities count. Too many attacks ended without troubling the goalkeeper. The technical bench must also answer some questions. Taking off Alpha Onyango when Gor were chasing the game was difficult to understand. The introduction of Lawrence Juma also raised questions about the team’s approach at a time when an equaliser was needed. What was the tactical thinking behind those changes? KCB’s late red card gave Gor a numerical advantage but they failed to make it count. That says a lot about their inability to change the game when faced with a difficult situation. There is no need to panic after one defeat but there is every reason to demand improvement. Gor need a more organised defence, better finishing and smarter decisions from the touchline. The title race will not wait for them to find their rhythm. Otete and his technical bench have work to do and plenty of it✅ #footballke
