My latest blog breaks down the science and what parents, schools and adults can do about it. Read it here: kevingeorge.online/emotional… #MentalHealth #Therapy #ChildDevelopment #Parenting #Resilience #Education

Overprotection and shame driven parenting rarely make the conversation, yet both are common threads running through addiction, incarceration and severe mental illness.
(5/6)
They grow into adults frozen in time, meeting adult problems with a child’s responses, beliefs and ways of processing. We talk about mental health constantly, yet rarely about root causes. And when we do look for causes, we pack the whole suitcase with stress and abuse.
(4/6)
The result? A child who never collects the evidence that they can cope or overcome challenges. They avoid anything new and their behaviour goes unaddressed or gets driven underground. Left alone, this follows them for decades.
(3/6)
1. Shielding children from the controllable stress they need to grow.
2. Feeling shamed by their child’s antisocial behaviour, then responding by either excusing it or punishing it harshly.
(2/6)
Read this twice. First as the child you were: notice whether either pattern feels familiar, then look at the impact. If you’re a parent, read it again through the lens of your own parenting.
Many loving parents fall into the same two traps, with the best of intentions:

I've seen the shift over recent years, in both grassroots and the professional game. Football has saved thousands of working class boys. By giving them a world that met their needs more effectively than schools or therapy.

I’m an Arsenal fan, Sol Campbell is legendary. However Rio was the best.
Terry read the game well, Campbell recovered well, Rio did both.
Rio could play in any team, across any generation, in any system with various demands e.g. technical, covering ground, anticipation etc

Anthony Gordon says playing like Spain is "not in us." An example of our cultural limiting beliefs.
Total Football was pioneered by an Englishman, Jack Reynolds.
If we knew the history, what would change in our culture, approach and performance?
