Listen to primary colleagues, understand the challenges that such a significant change of environment makes, understand that SATs and teacher assessments reflect what they are capable of, donโ€™t do baseline assessments and expect them to match their previous attainment.

Secondary colleagues: Understand your Y7s. Know the primary curriculum. Identify gaps before they arrive. Address issues theyโ€™ll have accessing curriculum. Teach your routines explicitly. Give them chance to get it wrong safely. Set high expectations with support and guidance.

Balkan Summer stop 7: Zadar, Croatia ๐Ÿ‡ญ๐Ÿ‡ท A relaxed city oozing with history and deeply tied to the sea. The most beautiful sunset Iโ€™ve ever seen, and the sea organ (a piece of engineering wherein the sea becomes an instrument) is one of the coolest things Iโ€™ve experienced.

Tomorrow, I meet the 240th pupil of our new Year 7 cohort. Iโ€™ve personally met every pupil and every school. Itโ€™s been an absolute honour and delight to chat to this next generation of young men and women. I cannot wait for the next 5 years to see the greatness theyโ€™ll accomplish

As transition coordinator, the best part of my job is popping into primary schools to chat to colleagues and meet the children. Itโ€™s the perfect time to field studentsโ€™ questions, quell their nerves and pass on key messages. Itโ€™s also a heartwarming experience.
Dear HoY7 colleagues, Please, please, please stop sending us hours and hours worth of transition paperwork to complete. Instead, do pop in and visit us for a little chat (we'll happily provide the biscuits). Yours faithfully, A Year 6 teacher.
