“Our goal was to create a safe and connected bike network.”
Janette Sadik-Khan, New York City's transportation commissioner from 2007 to 2013 pursued a planned bicycle network, rather than simply installing bicycle lanes wherever streets happened to be scheduled for paving.
Remember when people dismissed research because someone “just Googled it”?
“Google University” and “Google Scholar” were common put downs.
Now it’s “AI slop.”
AI can produce garbage, just as Google can return garbage. But the quality of an argument depends on its evidence, reasoning and accuracy, not whether someone used a new tool to help develop it.
If the argument is wrong, tell us why.

A hundred small local planning approvals turn into one dangerous corridor. This is where most deaths of people walking happen in the US - this and much higher trip count here explains much of the difference with Europe on pedestrian safety.
Need to visit Davis CA
Great network stats
An estimated 25–30% of Davis's bicycle network runs along arterials. 56 miles of on-street bicycle lanes and separated facilities. 25 Grade-separated bicycle crossings! 63 miles of independent pathways.
Oregon and MA ahead of the curve.
Instead of asking only how to make an arterial safer after development, they are looking to prevent the bad zoning decisions and exposure they bring in the first place, where Vision Zero should also focus.

30 years ago, urbanists and policy types ridiculed arguments that zoning was fundamentally bad and Euclid should be overturned.
Today, it’s nearly a mainstream view among the same crowd, and 30 years from now, Euclid will be either neutered by the states or overturned by SCOTUS.
Exclusionary zoning is bad.
But "inclusionary zoning," rather than being the opposite of bad exclusionary zoning, is just the same old exclusionary barriers to multifamily housing given a new name.
Just say no!
