⚒️ Building homes is building futures 🎓
Housing solutions must go hand-in-hand with Indigenous-led employment, training, and business opportunities. By building a strong Indigenous workforce across the housing supply chain, we can address the housing crisis and strengthen Ontario’s economy.
Programs like our Property Maintenance Program (PMP) demonstrate how training and employment opportunities can create meaningful impact in communities.
Priority #5 of the OUR Framework calls for:
• A co-developed Provincial Urban Indigenous Housing Workforce Action Plan
• An Indigenous Procurement Action Plan
• Expanded training and apprenticeship programs
• Private sector partnerships and community-led business initiatives
Expanding Indigenous-led workforce programs could contribute up to $179 billion to Canada’s GDP by 2030, while creating pathways to economic stability, skilled careers, and community self-determination.

A home should be accessible for every part of you 🦽
For urban Indigenous communities across Ontario, housing must include wraparound supports, trauma-informed care, and services that honour Indigenous identity.
Priority #2 of the OUR Framework calls for:
• Increased supportive and transitional housing
• Indigenous women’s housing, including those escaping violence and trafficking
• Safe, accessible housing for Indigenous seniors, youth, men, and people with disabilities
• 2SLGBTQQIA+ housing free from discrimination
This policy framework acts as guide; together, we can create homes that truly see you and reflect who you are.

🏠 We all play a part when it comes to housing 🏠
Ontario faces a housing crisis, with over 200,000 people on waitlists and Indigenous households disproportionately experiencing overcrowding, disrepair, and homelessness.
To meet this challenge, Priority #1 of the OUR Framework calls for:
• A national Urban, Rural & Northern Indigenous Housing Strategy
• An Urban Indigenous Housing Action Plan for Ontario
• Preservation of existing Urban Native Housing (UNH) units
• A permanent Indigenous-led homeownership program
Indigenous-led solutions, grounded in community and culture are essential to addressing the urban Indigenous housing crisis and achieving long-term housing security.

Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS) is proud to release the 2025 OUR Framework—a community-driven roadmap addressing the urgent housing crisis facing urban and rural Indigenous communities in Ontario.
Developed with @_ONWA_ , @TheOFIFC , and @MetisNationON, the report centers the voices of 657 individuals from 24 communities. It updates the 2013 OUR Framework, offering actionable solutions and a vision for safe, affordable, culturally grounded Indigenous-led housing.
Indigenous people are 3% of Ontario’s population, but up to 50% of the unhoused, reaching 88% in some urban centres. Yet Indigenous-led housing remains underfunded and often overlooked.
The report highlights six urgent priorities:
· Immediate action on affordable housing, including rent-geared-to-income and Indigenous-led homeownership programs;
· Increased supportive housing with culturally safe wraparound services;
· Safe, accessible, and culturally relevant housing for Elders, youth, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals;
· A workforce action plan to connect Indigenous people with housing-related jobs and training;
· Climate-resilient housing that reflects environmental stewardship and sustainability;
· Accelerated government coordination, ending siloed funding and policy frameworks.
