With all the injuries lately, I need to say something. Itβs about this guy LeBron James.
We talk a lot about LeBronβs longevity. His availability deserves just as much appreciation.
Through 23 seasons, LeBron played in nearly 88% of his teamsβ regular-season games. That includes the years when he was still playing into his late 30s and early 40s.
For his first FIFTEEN seasons? He played in more than 94% of the games. Just 71 missed games in 15 years. Fewer than five per season. Just think about that.
And in Year 15, he played all 82.
Think about the combination that requires: extraordinary talent, an enormous workload, and the ability to keep coming back and doing it again. Year after year after year.
Longevity is remarkable on its own. Maintaining that level of performance while being available that consistently is something else entirely.
Whatever your all-time rankings look like, this part of LeBronβs career deserves its own standing ovation. Nobody will ever come close in that regard.

Kevin Garnett tells Tony Allen and Zach Randolph that a single open run he had with a group of NBA players including Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen made him realize he wasn't going to college and would instead enter the NBA straight from high school. He noted that making just one bucket during that run changed everything for him.
