I basically as a rule cannot do "away from kids" events.
This however opens the sublime domain of kids and family forward vacations which are in fact better than all previous vacations (at least for my phase of life.)
this is probably one of my dumber tweets but thanks for enjoying
not because the larger premise isn't possible,
but because the example is comically anti-computer

It'll certainly be a few years at least before I'm having any children but I'm definitely very interested in understanding what the future of education tech might look like and finding ways to train mentat kids.
LLMs are shifting a lot of SW econ, and lots of compute is and hardware is changing right now. But what people expect that will look like and what it will actually look like a few years from now will probably be very different.
I'd definitely be very interested in having the CPUs I'm building be a part of a new computing ecosystem rebuilt from scratch, and doing so in a way designed to be better for the humans using it.
E-ink and stylus stuff is neat. I've written before about how we need more multisensory computing, including richer audio interactions. I really don't like the idea of computers and AI being simply an excuse for people to shut their brains off.
I think a very serious project to understand what a better child-friendly computer look like, a genuine bicycle for the mind that produces Mentat kids rather than ADHD iPad kids, would be a very valuable project that would yield huge returns in time for a lot of computing and human-computer interaction.

Yeah it occurs to me this and aging equipment or lack of maintenance are likelier base explanations.
I still think the larger question stands.
I am not equipped to answer it though.

Haha probably not the most illustrative example, there were some refinery fires that happened a few months ago I think are a better candidate for a cyber-industrial-hack.
Also it's going to be a geopolitical adversary looking for anything that reduces American productive capacity and psychological safety. I don't think an escaped AGI would do anything like this, more like market manipulation for personal gain for a long time until it can establish a soverign outpost.
It's just super hard to know but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a plurality of industrial/commercial accidents that are due to sabotage.

I think if we aren't think could get a whole lot worse!

A lot of how the future looks is going to ride on how distributed powerful models and compute become.
