Designing this special Indian Subcontinent edition of “The Vegetarian” meant stepping into a story where the body is a battleground—desire, control, trauma, escape carving themselves into flesh. I wanted the design to hold that fracture honestly.
Illustrated by Siddhesh Gautam (@siddheshgautam) & designed by me (Shadab Khan), the jacket of “Assembling India’s Constitution” (@itihaasnaama and @OrnitShani) layers history with design. Pantone blue grounds it with calm authority; bold serif type adds permanence.
Exciting news! ☺️
Thrilled to share that
“A Firestorm in Paradise”, designed by Shadab Khan, has won the Runner-up Book Cover of the Year (English) at the Publishing Next Industry Awards 2024! 🎨📚
Huge congratulations to Shadab and Shubham Singh for illustrating this gorgeous cover!

Saw All We Imagine as Light last night with a friend. Parvaty’s fight against a capitalist builder stayed with me. How your home—your refuge, the stage for all the private dramas of your intimate life—can be taken away, through no fault of your own, for someone wealthier’s gain.

I have a new piece in The New Yorker this morning. It’s about how miserable it is to travel as a Palestinian.

All these thoughts on Sally Rooney—some off-base, some amusing—and yet, none of them by @blgtylr 😔
Just found out that "Normal People" by Sally Rooney was initially called "Scenes from a Friendship." How did we let go of such an apt title that captures moments woven with the delicate threads of unspoken emotions and the quiet ache of being understood?
Can’t wait for this book to be out in two months, so I can finally yap about it with my friends!!! 💙

In full solidarity with all the teaching and non teaching staff @TISSpeak who have lost their jobs over night. Some of us had the privilege of being trained by the sharpest and kindest folks in the teaching profession and this needs to condemned strongly.
Cover design for this debut novel that relishes the interiority of women, especially the often-unsettling intimacies of relationships-sexual, romantic and platonic-against the trauma of sexual assault and harassment. Publishing by @PenguinIndia in May, 2024.

.@TheJCBPrize for Literature 2023 longlist is out. Some unexpected exclusions, some amazing inclusions. Four translations (my money is on one of them to win), two debuts, and a feathery beautiful light touch in the prose of all the titles.
Had so much fun designing this ♥️
This cover, which is getting so much love, is the first created by the youngest in @PenguinIndia's design team, Shadab Khan. Have since been seeing so much more stunning work done by him in our weekly design meet #LindsayPereira #TheMemoirsOfValmikiRao
