Why do you think big name mangas have lasting fandoms despite most of them already ended years or even decades ago? Because the storytelling makes you go back and reread it. It ages with you as the reader, whether good or bad. And this can't be achieved with 'good drawing' alone.
to know what we want to express to the reader is to understand storytelling..
pacing, story flow, paneling, dialogue flow/speech bubble,
at some point we won't know what we want to draw anymore
trial error will be here and there
you don't need to be good but you gotta understand even the basic, there will always room for improvement after all

on the topic of making a comic i saw someone saying that the artist doesnt need to be good at analyzing & breaking down media, they only need to know what they want to draw and what they want to express to the readers.
well how do you think an artist can be good at the latter.
