AI agents porting your app to multiple native codebases isn't a flex, it's a future maintenance nightmare. Watch my nextapp keynote to see why Flutter’s single source of truth is still the ultimate cheat code šŸ’™ youtu.be/Zz4ku_bmxG8?si=6HXD…

Gemini 4 Argon + @FlutterDev is cracked. @antigravity built this car infotainment screen and driver cluster with Flutter Scene in a day. It's all one Flutter app. :) The map uses real OpenStreetMap buildings in downtown Boston and a live route from OSRM. The x-ray chassis uses a custom material, and the brake discs glow as the car brakes. The car is a glTF model with working doors, hood, hatch, headlights, and paint options. The parking screen is a mockup of a 360 surround camera view. No embedded engine, no native map SDK, no platform views, just vanilla Flutter with Impeller and built-in SDK features: Flutter GPU. 3D rendered by Flutter Scene, a complete 3D game engine for Flutter. The app is 14,000 lines of Dart, with a center screen, a driver cluster, and a panoramic view of both. No subscriptions, no paid seats, no royalties. Free and open source, forever. Flutter can just do it all.

There is no excuse for there to be any friction with your software in 2026. Software should be personal, and perfect. It costs nothing to make, only costs to own/maintain.

Flutter is a 3D engine now. 99 seconds from my Flutter & Friends talk. Everything in the cut is rendered by Flutter on the stable channel, on Impeller and Flutter GPU. No platform views, no native textures piped in from another engine, no custom fork. The engine is Flutter Scene, a complete 3D game engine for Flutter. Complete means graphics, physics, audio, networking, an editor, and tools for AI coding agents, in one open source project. It runs on macOS, Linux, Windows, iOS, Android, web, and custom embedders. It scales down to a single model in a widget and up to full games, and dozens of contributors have landed work in it this year. A scene is a widget. Put it in a Column, stack UI over it, or draw it transparent over the UI so physics objects cast shadows on your buttons. And hot reload works on the scene itself. Change a light or a material in Dart and it updates in place. The full talk covers materials, lighting, the editor, and agent skills. Link in the reply. :)

We need to find more "balance bike equivalents" for other skills (e.g. learning to swim). They're such a huge improvement in how we learn to bike.
One thing I'm thrilled to see FINALLY taking off in the states is balance bikes If a kid starts on a balance bike instead of training wheels, they learn to ride a real bike way faster than with training wheels Part of the reason for this is obvious: you learn to actually balance instead of having the training wheels do that for you The other reason though is something called countersteering, which is one of those skills so subconscious it's basically impossible to verbally teach You need to learn how to countersteer in order to reliably turn without falling, which is where a large part of the frustration comes in when kids switch from training wheels to real bikes Balance bikes teach all of this naturally, and pedaling is one of the easiest skills to add Training wheels are archaic, ditch them!

I have been very busy working on a new @FlutterDev app.
McAfee’s new product experience seamlessly protects people's personal info, finances, connections and devices so they can shop, text, bank and browse with confidence, delivering advanced and comprehensive protection at every moment. Grounded in McAfee’s ā€œSafer Than Safeā€ brand promise, the new experience simplifies security into one holistic safety solution.

"Programming languages and frameworks are dead." Yes, kind of. What will matter in future is runtime behavior: Performance characteristics, resource usage, failure modes, observability, debuggability, deployments, rollbacks. And legibility of all that to agents.

Dice rolling across a Flutter widget tree. The cards, the button, and the score are plain widgets, and the dice cast shadows on them. :) The dice are physics bodies drawn by Flutter Scene, a complete 3D game engine for Flutter, in a transparent layer on top. An invisible shadow catcher material stands in for the screen surface, so the only thing the 3D layer draws is the dice and the shadows they leave on the UI. Land a die hard enough on a card and it cracks. The shards are the card's own pixels, thrown as physics bodies, and they cast shadows like everything else. No image assets anywhere. The stripes, the cards, the pip faces, and the wood and marble textures are painted or baked at startup. Physics is Rapier through flutter_scene_rapier, and this was recorded in debug mode. The shadow catcher material shipped today in flutter_scene 0.23. This version of the dice example, with the count-up, the glass, and the breaking cards, lands in the example app with the next release.

If you're a React Native user, you should *really* try out Flutter some time to see what we're missing. The integrated debugger is just mesmerising. You can navigate your UI tree via component hierarchy, or via visual layout. Clicking on either takes you to the declaration site!

Google Docs is going to be as legacy as Word if they don't launch a great MCP soon. `gws` is an insufficient workaround. All small companies are just going to switch to Notion or whoever has "bring your own model" accessible document editing.

Yup. Apple is not going to replace their stores with chat boxes. Brand experience matters. UX matters.
I still believe in the user interface. Feels like today's consensus is that the UI is dying in favor of building AI apps on top of existing messaging platforms. I don't buy it. The UI is where the best products earn trust, build brand, and optimize engagement.

"I just want to serve 5tb" is still funny 15 years later. Also a remarkable inditement of big tech, and a good case for why LLMs (trained on all the gunk of engineering) are so useful. youtube.com/watch?v=3t6L-Flf…
