"If you're Kroger and wine sales are down, and beer and spirits are softening, but mixers are growing by 20%-30%, they pay attention to whether they're carrying the right items and how they're displayed on the shelf. This way Fever-Tree was able to gain more space." @_inpractise

This is the thought process of mastery. Nuanced quality thought built over years and decades. There is no shortcut. It is only achievable through thousands of hours of focus.

"traditional art buyer" touted in Sotheby's BAYC auction is now alleged in a securities class action against Yuga et. al. to have been...none other than FTX... many of the epic pumps last cycle were just from these frauds spending other people's money with reckless abandon...

Companies generally aren’t Lindy. The ones are seem to be tapped into a deeper, slower, longer pace layer. E.g. the London Stock Exchange is arguably more at the governance/culture layers, whereas most businesses are at the fashion/commerce/infrastructure layers.

What is your favorite expert network? Bonus points for less popular ones with interesting models (eg tegus but less well known). Looking to try a couple new ones. My favorite smaller ones personally are ridgetop (APAC region) and Noble Insight.

Thoughtful analysis by @_inpractise on not just the value of gross and operating margins but also the variance of those margins over time, and how that feeds through to returns on capital. Comparing B2B distributors $WSO, $FAST, $POOL and Addtech

Excellent thread and interview with former boss of Aldi UK. I had not appreciated quite how strong Aldi's culture was/is. The interview contains many business lessons and is a great example of how culture can drive competitive advantage. Thanks for doing it @_inpractise
Aldi's ability to enter mature markets dominated by highly competent retailers and get to significant scale has fascinated us for some time

"There are many examples of companies which ‘harvest’ excessively, when perhaps they should focus on longevity." Nick Sleep Great anecdote.. like Forrest Mars who canned employees if they weren't using assets effectively .. under and over-earning. #longtermfocus
Replying to @_inpractise
Aldi UK CEO was chastised by Aldi HQ for being TOO PROFITABLE at one point in mid 2000s. Message from HQ: "Market share growth is much more important that short-term profits and profits, in general"
