It was so cool to see fish embryos! 🐟 If you know me, you know I love fish. I also happen to be interested in embryos, so seeing these were really exciting to me!
Just a couple years ago, I would sit in my office watching YouTube videos of ICSI and day dream about learning to micromanipulate embryos 💭 Now I have my own cool video to share!
These are cow zygotes 🐮

NIH indirect costs fund the backbone of research: maintaining labs, ensuring safety, and supporting admin work. These are essential for groundbreaking discoveries. Drastic cuts to NIH indirect rates are detrimental to academic biomedical research.

The NIH 15% cap on indirect costs will kneecap biomedical research in the US.
Without essential infrastructure, there will be:
Staff cuts
Lab closures
Fewer research projects
Less scientific progress
Loss of talent
The US will no longer lead scientific & medical innovation.
Very happy to share that our newest work has been published! This was a great collaboration between @BiaseLab and the Ealy lab (@ealy_alan). Check it out 👇🏼

Very happy that our #research showcasing CRISPR-DART ✂️ 🧬🎯 for efficient deletion of genomic fragments in zygotes. academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/a… was released online @PNASNexus on #WorldCRISPRDay. Nice team work @_GSchettini @slspeckhart @ealy @_jadanix_
The Virginia Governor’s School for Agriculture students blew me away with their poster and public presentations today! I’m so proud of the next generation of professionals 🐮🌽
Be sure to check out the preprint of our newest work! Together we developed a new method for CRISPR-Cas DNA and RNA targeting in cattle zygotes 🐮
Happy to be apart of this exciting work led by the Biase Lab. The preprint is out:
Ablation of OCT4 function in cattle embryos by double electroporation of CRISPR-Cas for DNA and RNA targeting (CRISPR-DART) biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Congratulations Savannah @slspeckhart . Her dissertation lit review was used to develop the lab's latest review article.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this may be a monozygotic twin blastocyst! That looks like two beautiful ICMs to me. What does embryo Twitter think?
(in vitro produced cattle blastocyst 🐮)
In our recent publication, using a newly completed sequence of the cattle Y chromosome, we identified PCR primers along with a set of four genes which can determine sample sex via RNA-sequencing data. 🐄 🧬 @BiaseLab

Very excited to share an image of my 🐮 embryos resulting from zygotes electroporated with exogenous EGFP mRNA! Stay tuned for more from the @BiaseLab.
Very happy to share that my first first-author paper has been published! A huge thanks to my advisor, Dr. Biase, for his help and guidance with this project. Check it out 👉🏼 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
