I had the privilege of coaching the WOW FACTOR IL Select 2028 team for the second summer. We competed against some of the best teams and players in the country, and it was rewarding to watch this group continue to improve as the summer went on.
On this thread, I want to highlight a few of the players who made a big impact and have bright futures ahead. If you're looking to see some of the top talent in the Class of 2028, you'll have the chance to watch most of these guys at the Illinois State Games on August 3rd/4th.
Looking forward to seeing what they accomplish the rest of this year and how they improve over the fall/winter!
Brenton Trickey (Williamsville HS)
Trickey carried the momentum from a strong spring season, helping Williamsville to the Supersectional championship, right into the summer. Trickey competed against some of the best teams and hitters in the country and consistently proved he belonged on that stage.
On the mound, Brenton posted a 3.08 ERA over 22.2 innings. In 4 starts, he went 3-1 on the summer. His only loss came against a talented 17U team loaded with SEC commits, showing the level of competition he was willing to challenge himself against.
Offensively, Trickey was a consistent presence in the middle of our lineup, hitting in the 4-5 hole all summer while posting a slash line of:
.380 / .500 / .520
19 H (5 XBH) / 13 RBIs
15 R / 6/6 SB / 12:9 (BB:K)
His power continues to develop, and when he stays behind the ball, he has some of the best power to all fields in the state. Brenton’s ability to impact the game both on the mound and at the plate makes him one of the more intriguing two-way players in the 2028 class.
@BrentonTrickey
Brady Jones (Metamora Township HS)
Brady continues to climb the ranks, not only in the state of Illinois, but nationally as well. Brady had an outstanding summer offensively, posting a slash line of:
.328 / .541 / .603
19 H (8 XBH) / 19 RBIs
25 R / 13 SB / 27:17 (HBP/BB:K)
Brady consistently proved to be one of the most impactful bats in the lineup.
His performance earned him invites to the Illinois State Games and the Futures Games, while also being selected to the White Sox Area Codes team, where he competed alongside some of the best players in the country.
Brady brings a physical presence to the box, alongside being able to hit anywhere in the top-half of the lineup, and has the ability to impact the game offensively, while also showing defensive versatility by handling both corner positions and providing a solid option at shortstop.
Brady’s continued development and ability to perform against elite competition make him one of the top players to watch in the 2028 class.

Unbelievable game out of Deano. Energy was low for the 8 am game this morning, but Dean picked up the squad big time this morning!!
‘28 RHP Dean Marchand (IL) tossed a gem, going CG/shutout. Struck out 11 in his 7 innings, while only allowing 4 H & a walk. FB lived in the low 80s/ flashing 84. SL was tight in the low 70s. #BattleWC @DeanMarchand5
