Just this second across the dinner table I said "I hope someone is doing a study in fuel prices in Leicester this evening"

Exactly! Just look at the variance here in Leicester 👇 Anyone at £1.80 will now be under more pressure to cut prices. Smart measure to reduce costs by making markets better, not worse!
Research by economists at NYU found that compulsory petrol price transparency in Germany reduced petrol prices by around 3% and diesel prices by 2%. Very sensible pro-consumer policy here to put pressure on retailers to compete!

To those who think this could raise prices, it misses how competitive markets work. The key is that firms respond to the demand they face, not simply knowledge of competitors’ prices (they already have substantial visibility of those prices). What changes is the behaviour of drivers, lower search costs make them more likely to switch to cheaper providers. A provider that raises its price risks losing the demand it has won by being cheaper, while firms offering lower prices are rewarded with more customers. That strengthens competition and puts downward pressure on prices. Market efficiency is good for prices, as @KaneEmerson showed above

After years of cross-party inaction, Burnham deserves huge credit for scrapping the triple lock just 10 weeks into his premiership. The fairest and most fiscally responsible choice.

I'm absolutely delighted to see @FortuneJF appointed General Secretary of the Labour Party. Joe has the passion, experience and ideas to get the Party where it needs to be - I'm so excited to see how he takes us forward
Joe Fortune has been appointed as Labour’s next general secretary by a unanimous vote of the NEC (from a shortlist of one) A source close to Fortune said: "Joe has a proven record leading and running a political party and is respected across the labour movement for his near two decades of service. "He will be an fantastic asset to the Labour Party at this crucial moment."

Almost as if there are other factors contributing to high gilt yields other than just “know-nothing socialists” + “tax-and-spendthrift Labour MPs” + “things backbenchers say on Sky News” 🤔
👀Gilt markets reacting to the news the @bankofengland is rejigging the way it's carrying out quantitative tightening. 30 year gilt yield down more than 10bps 👇

Yesterday, @cllrscotthill and I cycled 40 miles around Hounslow in memory of our friend and colleague Cllr Junue, who sadly passed away earlier this year. We’re raising money for the @wren_project who support people living with an autoimmune disease. Link to donate below

I’m not usually one to defend Zack Polanski, but the idea he doesn’t have at least one single connection to Camden is just nonsense. Look, here he is standing for the council there in 2015… as a Lib Dem… during the austerity coalition…

We found half of disability benefits claimants would swap £1,000/year for services of their choosing. This could be things like healthy meals, physiotherapy, and skills & training. Listen to our Director of Strat @LouisaDollimore on @TimesRadio below talking about our research.
