More than 4 years of research & development is finished: NEXA’s Tailstorm hardfork will be launched on mainnet soon. It turns Nexa into a hybrid DAG consensus. Traditional UTXO blockchain but with the speed and benefits of a DAG.
What does this mean for Nexa?
The main benefit of combining a DAG with a traditional blockchain (like Tailstorm) instead of a pure BlockDAG (like Kaspa) comes down to Linear Order, DeFi security, and Miner honesty.
1. Smart Contracts: Pure BlockDAGs struggle with strict event ordering because blocks are created parallelly. Tailstorm uses a DAG for sub-blocks to get 1-second speeds but anchors them into a linear blockchain (Summary Blocks), creating a perfect timeline for error-free smart contracts and DeFi.
2. Anti-Selfish Mining: The hybrid structure enforces an incentives game theory where giant mining pools are financially penalized for hiding blocks. This protects small, decentralized miners, whereas pure BlockDAGs are much more vulnerable to selfish mining.
3. Spam Protection: Sub-blocks exist fast in RAM, but the summary block requires full PoW. This prevents the ledger from getting bloated by cheap transaction spam.

📒 Tailstorm: Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) Combined With Traditional Blockchain
A proof-of-work system that can confirm your transactions in 3 seconds was, until recently, just a myth. To this day, Bitcoin's average block time is 10 minutes.

📒 The Money of the Internet: Nexa
Since the inception of cryptocurrencies, there has been significant interest and hype around this technology. Each attempt at adoption ended in major scalability bottlenecks, ever-increasing fees, and ultimately political discussions.
So far, the potential of cryptocurrencies has not been realized. The backbone of the internet, removing the middlemen and serving as programmable digital cash. All of this was envisioned by Satoshi Nakamoto; unfortunately, it never happened.
However, all of this is absolutely possible. Since then, technology has evolved, and the only bottleneck is political debates and actual adoption.
