At our recent @ApacheIceberg Community Meetup in India, we also sat down with Narsingh from @fivetran someone who’s been closely observing how data teams across India are evolving their architectures.
Our conversation touched on a few themes we’re seeing more and more across the ecosystem:
• How Apache Iceberg adoption is accelerating in India as teams move toward open, interoperable table formats
• How meetups like these are helping practitioners exchange ideas, share real production learnings, and shape the future of Iceberg adoption locally
Great to see the energy building around Iceberg, and even better to hear these insights directly from the people driving real-world implementations.
More conversations coming soon as we continue strengthening this community and documenting the shifts happening in the data space.
Huge thanks to our partners for powering this edition alongwith @_olake -

I recently had the chance to host a fireside chat with two incredible CTOs —
@jacopotagliabue CTO at @Bauplan_labs and @cto_datazip Shubham Baldava from OLake —
and it turned into one of the most honest and insightful conversations I’ve had around the modern data stack.
One of the big questions I asked was:
Why @ApacheIceberg ?
Why not @apachehudi or @DeltaLakeOSS ?
Jacopo shared Bauplan’s perspective how Iceberg’s community-first approach,
its open governance, and its independence from any vendor ecosystem
make it the format that aligns with how today’s data systems should evolve.
Shubham added his side coming from his experience working with Hudi at scale at PayPay,
he talked about the practical pain points, what worked, what didn’t,
and why OLake made the decision to be exclusively built on Apache Iceberg.
And honestly, hearing him break down that pivot was eye-opening.
These were just a few of the many interesting questions we went into.
If you’re curious about where data engineering is headed,
and want to hear perspectives from people who’ve built real systems at massive scale,
you can check out the full recording.
And if you want to be part of these conversations in person,
we’re also hosting an Apache Iceberg Meetup this Saturday would love to see you there.

The only way to get off campus opportunites is contribution to open source and this might be your chance to build world's fastest data replication tool .
@_olake just went orange this halloween.
Why?
@hacktoberfest !!
I’ve always supported open source and liked my github - greeener the better .
Now we’re welcoming pull requests and submissions for two of our core repositories- UI and Core. This is your chance to help build the world’s fastest data application tool.
Step two is simple:
get those PRs merged. Join our Slack. Contributors are already there, discussing ideas and helping each other.
No pressure, no judging by the conversation count :)
And yes, there are perks alongwith hacktoberfest goodies we have..
The jacket I’m wearing?
You can get it.
Plus diaries, pens, stickers.
If an opening comes up, contributors will always get priority.
Check out the repos.
Start with the good first issues they’re beginner-friendly.
If you’re more technical, explore deeper.
We support TypeScript, JavaScript, and Golang.
Repository links are in the comments. See you on GitHub and Slack.

If you are building in public and building a open source tool supported by a community you dont have to worry about #h1bvisa
Not every day do you get to attend a talk from the CTO of India’s largest stockbroker platform, @zerodha.
That’s what India’s largest open-source event gets you.
For those who don’t know, one of the founders of @FOSSUnited is Kailash.
So, what does open source mean to him?
He shared how he created his first open-source project back in 2002, which eventually gave shape to the idea of FOSS. It’s truly inspiring to see something from India contributing to open source at such a scale.
Zerodha has been supporting open-source projects from the very beginning and unlike the Shark Tank India format, they don’t take equity. They simply believe in good ideas and genuinely love to uplift such projects.
I also had the @_olake booth at FOSS, and the number of times I pitched about OLake was unbelievable. But what surprised me even more was the number of people who had already seen OLake through our socials that was amazing to witness.
Since we believe in open source, it’s great to see this community growing here in India, and it feels so good to be part of it.
If you missed FOSS, you really missed out big time.

Akshay came across india's largest open source event like this..
I’ve always been impressed by open source since my #GSoC days. Managing pull requests and contributing to large-scale repositories taught me how to build better, collaborate effectively, and follow strong industry practices.
Fast forward to today I’m managing my company’s @_olake booth at India’s largest open-source event, @FOSSUnitedBLR @FOSSUnited
Made some great connections and looking forward to even more meaningful contributions to the open-source ecosystem.

I used to attend every @awscloud meetup in my college years, and now the company I work at is sponsoring one
You name the AWS event I was there.
Firstly, because I was really interested in cloud and even earned the DVA certification in the same.
But secondly, for networking...
AWS has one of the biggest communities and the best people I have ever met.
It’s so well-connected I still have a lot of good contacts and our convos is just "so what is aws doing with AI nowadays?"
Would heavily recommend attending one if you are a student.
But what’s the best part is that I am really happy and proud to see the company I’m a part of, @_olake, now being one of the sponsors of the AWS Community event that too in the financial capital of India, Mumbai.
See you guys there on as usual with my linkedIn qr as wallpaper and making more connections. It’s great to see fastest data replication platform being adopted faster...
Till then, see ya...

Last week I got one of the biggest names in data engineering to talk on one of the most important topics of 2025 → @ApacheIceberg
From co founders to team managers we had it all .
If you’ve been following @ClickHouseDB , you know it’s already huge in analytics.
Now with read + write support for Iceberg, the ecosystem has evolved further and that's for what we had Shivji & Saurabh the "open source experts" from @nutanix walk us through the updates + live demo.
Got 100+regs on this one and all engineers in the Big Tech interested to dive deeper and network in our call .
We also wrapped our @_olake Community Call
⚡️ Helm deployment (big win for easy setup)
⚡️ @Oracle connector demoed by @SchitizS
I hosted this end to end → and we hold such calls monthly!
Finally, a Catalogs Deep Dive with Arsham who joined us all the way from San Francisco
→ breaking down how 2025 is shaping metadata in Iceberg: Glue, Lakekeeper, @apachepolaris , Nessie, plus @Snowflake updates.
100+regs and this call had a long set of questions coming in (recording in thread if interested )
My main aim at OLake is to create a space where people teach, learn, and most importantly question everything. Many of our calls go a long way in shaping real decisions for teams.
And while it’s not all about tech, the active discussions are integral and range from
"how's your day been ? "
to ... "which catalog are you using in your company and what are the cost savings? "
One thing that stood out recently: Iceberg adoption is rising fast not just in India and China, but all the way in San Francisco too. 🌍
If you’re interested in networking, connecting, and be a part of this ever growing industry, OLake is where we bridge that gap.

Are people here using or planning to use Iceberg V3?
We are planning to use Iceberg in production, just a quick questio before we start the development.
Has anybody done the deployment in production, if yes: What are problems you faced? Are the integrations enough to start?

We have @ClickHouseDB that is going to drop a massive update the most comprehensive yet for open table formats
What it would hold ?
-Write support for Delta Lake (exp)
-Expanded Iceberg write support (CREATE, ALTER, etc.)
-Catalogs now in beta (incl. Unity Catalog)
-Position & equality deletes
-Improved Parquet reader
@ApacheIceberg & other open table formats are gaining serious traction, staying updated is key.
On that note, join our @_olake session today with speakers from @nutanix covering ClickHouse + Iceberg read/write support, along with a live demo.
Don’t miss it fresh insights straight out of the oven: app.livestorm.co/datazip-inc…

I recently co-authored a blog comparing Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake for ML pipelines.
What I realised while working on it is that this choice isn’t just about ticking off features and it’s about picking the kind of data stack you want to live with for years.
- Here apache iceberg offers open, multi-engine flexibility (Spark, Flink, Trino, Presto) + strong metadata and schema evolution.
- Delta Lake revolves around deep Spark/Databricks integration, performance optimisations, and governance .
For orgs leaning into ML-heavy workflows, this decision can mean future-proofing your architecture… or maybe locking it into a specific path.
