First preprint from my PhD - analysis of data collected by Elizabeth Allison, with Paul Dudchenko and Emma Wood. MEC is necessary for rotation of CA1 place fields with distal, but not proximal, landmarks. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

The arrest of charity volunteers raises serious questions about the role (& perhaps collusion) of rightwing media, police & politicians in the demonisation of protesters. This thread will report my attempts to piece together what happened & what it means. dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/…

Do you ever wonder if the anatomical position of hippocampal CA1 neurons relates to its major cortical outputs and memory function?
In this preprint, we take a dive into how CA1 structure informs function!

Come work in the Wood/Dudchenko lab in Edinburgh, it's great!
We are currently advertising 2 postdoc positions to investigate hippocampal function in a rat model of Grin2B haploinsufficiency (which is associated with ASD/ID in humans). One postdoc for in vivo and one for ex vivo (slice) electrophysiology. Job ad here elxw.fa.em3.oraclecloud.com/…

My poster is up now at #FENS2022 board 451 - for anyone interested in Fragile X Syndrome rats and LFP oscillations during wake and NREM sleep!
Fab day trip to @EdinburghUni last week to viva @_sephMoore who did a fantastic job!
I'm presenting my poster on medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampus network oscillations in a rat model of Fragile X Syndrome at #SfN2021. I'll be discussing it in the Cortical Networks session at 10:45 CT (16:45 GMT)... if the platform lets anyone log in.

I am very happy to share the newest manuscript from my work in @sidb_edinburgh and @PWCentre at @EdinburghUni. I learned so many things during this study and for that alone, I'm proud. This is one of the rats of the study and one of many similar drawings I uploaded on @scidraw.

It’s textbook knowledge that hippocampal place cells are active at a particular place. But what happens to navigation when you activate place cells away from their favourite location? For the answer, check out our new paper in Cell (cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092…) and read on 👇 (1/16)

Seriously though, I don’t think people realise how much lobbying of MPs there is by big business.
From little things like this, to receptions, dinners & free trips abroad - & that’s just for backbench MPs.
Remember, they’re lobbying for the super-rich, not for working people.
It was nice of you to send me this, @HeathrowAirport, but I still think building a third runway will accelerate the climate emergency and should be cancelled 🙂

states very clearly what is needed if governments are serious about limiting global heating to 1.5C, as agreed at Paris.
Spoiler: No new fossil fuelled infrastructure, anywhere, ever. From now on.
