I'm De. I did my bachelor's degree somewhere in a French-speaking country. I did my M1 'Parcours Fondamentales' and M2 spécialité Géométrie Algébrique. Then I did my master's (again) in mathematical physics. And now I'm working at this company where uhm (cough cough) unlike Mr. Cox something! I'll get sued if I share anything about the company!! So let's not connect!!

During a meeting this morning, I had to speak a little Korean to explain something. After that a vp from another department said “It's commendable that you've taken the initiative to learn another language for the benefit of our clients” I should've just smiled and let him think that was the reason!! but rule number three! tell the truth. So I was like “uhm actually I like this Korean singer called Kim Taeyeon, I learned it so I could understand her lyrics!” That's what happens when you're raised by a very Catholic grandmama!

One of the reasons I’m still hesitant about doing a PhD is that I DON’T HANDLE REJECTION WELL!! The last time I got rejected was during my bachelor’s. I applied for an internship at imec and they said no! And the worst part is that I was upset about both things!! Not getting what I wanted and knowing that someone had looked at my application and decided I wasn’t good enough!! AHHH THE FLASHBACKS!!

Anyway I know intellectually that rejection doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not good enough. Sometimes it’s funding, availability, research fit, yada yada!! But knowing that andddd actually being rejected are two very different experiences! I fear I’m not emotionally equipped for another rejection era!!

My nutritionist told me to eat like I need to gain 7kg, not because I'm too thin, she just wants me eating more. So @BrewMasterNull thinks it's funny we’re out here eating “fatty rice”… “lemak rice”… “nasi lemak”

What do you mean my schedule is already full until february 2027?!! P.s when you’re mixed here and there, you end up with a ridiculously long name because apparently your family wanted it to represent every part of your identity!!

Group chat with math people. Group chat with math of math people. Group chat of grouped chats!! LET’S MAKE ANOTHER GC!! But with one rule: No English and no one’s mother tongue allowed!! That’ll be the quietest group chat ever!!

I’m sick and bored so I decided to write a poem in Russian!! As I’ve said before… yearning hurts differently in Russian!! let’s bleed with me… I mean learn Russian!! So Russian verbs usually come in pairs (perfective/imperfective). And that’s why I purposely used “Я чертила формы” (imperfective)!! It means I was drawing shapes, not as something completed, but as something ongoing, possibly repeated, over time!! In boring English it’d be something like “I was drawing shapes” but see how Russian makes that unfinished feeling part of the verb itself??!! Second!! I used the word “клятва”!! It can’t be just translated as oath/vow because it can carry this solemn, almost sacred weight!! Not just a promise, but something that feels… uhm binding!! Third!! “Я думала, свечение—это клятва”!! Literally “I thought the glow was a vow” But “свечение” can evoke both the light and like the process of shining. I chose this because I wanted that ambiguity!! The glow itself or the very act of glowing!! In English I’d have to play around with “I thought the glow was a vow” or “I thought the shining was a promise” And my fav line!! “Я хотела, чтобы небеса подтвердили то, что я уже чувствовала” (I wanted the heavens to confirm what I already felt) The me… the speaker doesn’t just “misread” the stars!! She stupidly wants the universe to validate something she has already decided to believe!! The problem is the cruel heavens promised nothing! She was the one who mistook her own longing for evidence!! Sad… Okay I’m tired!! Anyway!! Russian is beautiful and this is how I spend my free time!!
Most of my mutuals know I learned Russian to read Fuks' work on cohomology of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras and characteristic classes of foliations. Now that I know foliations = flat algebraic maps with no global base. Characteristic classes = derived from formal coordinate changes. H*(W_n) is finite-dimensional and injects into geometry. Classes that don't stabilize are deformable!! And yada yadaaa… I mainly use Russian to write poems now. Because ugh…”longing”…hurts differently in Russian!!! Let me show you

Sent an email at 7am: “I have not fully recovered from my cold, so I'll be taking sick leave today and tomorrow. I will be present for the nine o'clock meeting only. If something urgent requires my attention, please don't hesitate to contact me.” By 8:30 I'd already stared at almost 30 emails with the subject '(really important)' Amateur move, De!!

For my kind mutuals: I only have Twitter!! I don’t have any other social media accounts, nor do I plan on creating any!! The only reason I’m active on this app is because I’m not particularly fond of interacting with people irl! and my therapist suggested I give this a try!! It was either this or dating apps! and there’s NOT ENOUGH MONEY IN THE WORLD to convince me to join one of those!! (No offense to anyone who’s on one!!) Anyway, the moment I’m done with this ridiculously expensive therapy of mine, I’m deleting this app too!!

I’ve been reading this paper on persistent homology of Hamiltonian orbits and its application to beam physics and my god I have sooo many questions!! First of all!! I actually think the idea is interesting! Using PH to characterize the geometry of short Hamiltonian trajectories! But the authors keep saying it can “predict” the dynamic aperture and I’m struggling to see where they’ve demonstrated that! Like whereeee?! For the proton IOTA case they compute PH from 200 turns and compare it with survival tracking up to (10^8) turns. Fine! but where’s the confusion matrix?? Precision?! Recall?! How far is the predicted DA boundary from the actual one?! And why 200 turns???? What happens at 50, 100, 400, or 800? Do the labels change?? What about sticky orbits that look perfectly regular for the first 200 turns??! Then there’s the metric dependence!! The Hénon–Heiles example literally shows a misclassification that improves when they change the embedding! So how sensitive are the IOTA results to the number of sampled points, coordinate scaling, or the metric?! Alsoooo where are the cheap baselines??! What if I just take the same 200-turn trajectories and compute frequency-map drift or maximum excursion? Does PH actually tell me anything about long-term survival that those simpler diagnostics don’t??? And the IOTA lattice is a pretty favorable test case for normal-form decoupling!! I’d be much more convinced if they showed this working in a strongly nonintegrable, coupled system!! Listen, I’m not saying PH is useless here!! But showing that short-time PH classifications are “spatially” consistent with long-term survival maps isn’t the same as demonstrating that they predict the dynamic aperture!! Ugh I was enjoying the mathematics until the claims started annoying me!!

Finding people you get along with is a search problem that gets harder the more you grow into yourself, especially when your interests drift away from what's considered cool, but it's the most complex and most rewarding one

This Moroccan grandma next to me gave me a “dessert” she made (her own version of sellou or something!!) Old people love me!! My brothers say it's because I have stray cat energy! Who cares! Free food is the best

Last year, my friends convinced me to dress as Lust from Fullmetal Alchemist for Halloween! Last night, I had to stay at my brother's place because he didn't trust me to stay by myself!! One would think I'm just an “allegedly” adult!

Went for a walk and met this sweet grandma!! She was like “Do you have a cold, my beautiful?” She took me to her place, made me warm milk with honey, and gave me these “unfamiliar” medicines!! So I told my brother, and he was like “YOU FOLLOWED A STRANGER TO HER HOUSE, ACCEPTED A DRINK FROM HER, AND TOOK MEDICINE FROM HER??? ARE YOU INSANE??? YOU HAVE ZERO SURVIVAL SKILLS!!” ME: 😭😭😭

Had to sleep half sitting up because I can't breathe and I convinced myself I'd get sudden infant death syndrome (I'm a big baby when I'm sick!) Woke up cranky, went for a walk (searching for oxygen!) came home, showered, prepared for the nine o'clock meeting, and then I'm done!! P.s J'ai mis mes lunettes sur mes lèvres parce que mon nez ne sert plus à rien!!
