Input Streams Are the New Bottleneck Everyone has the same AI models. We have infinite intelligence at the touch of a few buttons. So what becomes the bottleneck? What is the good stuff that now gives you the competitive advantage? Your input streams. By input, I mean valuable information that transforms your action in some way. It is not to be confused with consumption, a modern disease which plagues the minds of people and inhibits timely action. Input streams are everywhere. You can’t escape them. They exist as the people you talk to, the context in which you work from, the habits and practices you keep, and the books you keep reading. The most valuable input streams now are those that act as closed loops: as you act, you receive feedback from reality, and that feedback gives you new information only you can see. Nobody else took your action in such a way within your individual context. A valuable input stream reveals problems before they are made completely legible to everyone else. Because of this, your social media feed is now a competitive advantage. Of course, this has been known for a while. Traders have always paid for a faster wire, and journalists have always gatekept their sources. But what makes this idea so much more valuable now? Because now processing that information is much less costly: you have a professional software engineer at your fingertips. When everyone can do information transformation, what matters becomes the information, not the process. To be clear, processing still matters. Two people can have the same information and act very differently on it, which gives them different results. Information is also reflexive: once many people act on it, it changes the outcome. So look at what everyone else is doing and go orthogonal. Rely on your own unique context, and use the models to be precise to you. Models typically give everyone the same default answers, so using this to your advantage means using your information to move away from the default. There lies a gap between what gets done and when it gets captured in a way that is made legible. In this gap lies the most informational value right now: tacit knowledge, individual context, and early signals. As an input channel, social media is much of where this information lies now, especially text-based platforms like Twitter and Reddit. Group chats are also an important input stream, as they give you insider information that is closed off to the public. The best input streams are private but participatory. Because of this, your feed becomes an arbitrage that you can trade on. Design your feed on purpose. Clear out mainstream information, because that is where the knowledge is already priced in. What you’re looking for is the stuff at the edge: what is currently unknown to most people but can still be acted on effectively, right now. No one cares about a theoretical startup idea that is based on a trend everyone read about last year. What can you do RIGHT NOW? Your social media feeds also provide high rates of gathering new context. What this means is that insights only have so long before they lose value, and to counteract this we must ensure our rate of gathering new context is high enough so our rate of action does not deplete the value of the insights. Our insights also have the potential to lose value when they are made legible at a mass scale, as now the models will have them baked into their training data. So the scarcity comes from your rate of gathering new context, plus your ability to use it an effective manner before it becomes common knowledge. For instance, if I have a consistent line of communication with workers in a domain such as healthcare, not only does this give me unique context, but it also gives me a high rate of gathering which means my insights won't be beat out by singular instances of usage.

It’s kinda obvious that the old Silicon Valley lore of anybody can do it is totally dead, now it’s all insiders, sure you’ll launch some tier 4 company funded by tier 4 investors and take a decade to learn the lingo and the culture and after all that politicking find yourself able to afford a basic house. The actual winners went to the right schools made the right friends had the right jobs learnt the right vocabulary and hidden culture and had the ight expectations to even know what the innermost circle is at any time and what the bar is and who the people are and how many zeroes to think in and what precise degree of humility to have. Not to mention the total vapidity of the new class of founders, because of how regimented and anti exploration and domesticated the whole process has now become. One gets the sense that this whole game is now not the main game, and that sense is correct, it is just another meta like the finance meta the tech meta the ai meta the European intellectual meta the Asian grinder meta and so on. Metas will gobble up the individuality of individuals, pawns in the games of institutions. There is never not an Elite, but in a sense the elite that can be named is not the real elite, so it is difficult to say who the elite is now, where they hang out, what provides power, and so on. One cannot have one’s toes in all the baskets, one has to somehow ground one’s strategy in future morality without getting shredded alive by the present, you cannot just play the long game, you have to play the whole stack, short and medium and long and beyond and win them all. If the strategy does not exist (it does not), if the playbook or knowledge or language does not exist (it does not), you write it. But this is not some game of peer review. The total brutality of actually making it is cold beyond comparison. To be situated inside morality one might find oneself having to do the most vile and ugly shit , and this isn’t Shawshank where it’s three days of stench where in you’re used to it three hours in anyway, no, it’s the part before where the tunnel is dug daily, with a fucking spoon, in secret, and total coherence. That is far more difficult than digging through shit. There are levels to coldness and brutality unseen in any historical figure, these must be embraced and understood, one must become comfortable with this act of the self concept being shredded in the daily, not knowing who one is, not knowing truth from lies, willingly deceiving oneself and then making up and then going deeper, this cycle that must go on, continue, each phase more powerful, there never will be another option, one gets no choice in the roles one plays, no, it is all of them or none. There is no choice to just dive into the tar pit like them all and outdo them with strategy. There is no ground and no truth and you are fucked either way, between a phony and a loser both are non options so there somehow just has to be some way and there is just no way anybody can ever know of it beforehand, not this. Is there a risk bigger than this?

two months since i did this and i can't lie it was pretty transformative biggest takeaway is that now i can't ignore the fact that intellectual ideas concerning the self don't have contact with reality value is now skewed towards direct experience vs abstract ideas

when i switched frames from seeing business, entrepreneurship, investing/trading as just ways to make money but instead seeing it as a testing ground where i could evaluate my philosophy & seeing the game as applied philosophy, it completely flipped the intrinsic energy script

how does he never miss
Today, we're shipping real-time graphics. Using Sol 6.1 Ultrafast we can generate custom overlays, diagrams, and even interactive 3D scenes right on a user's screen, no chat. It's a new visual interface for AI. Here's me learning about LLMs + hardware. Demo:

Hi, I'm Felix. I'm an eng lead working on Claude. I love watching people take flight and do things they never thought possible. We often describe that as "being more ambitious" when using AI, which is tricky advice to follow. I wrote a tutorial: felixrieseberg.com/how-to-be…

the primary reason this archetype is so rare is because it requires an obsessive level of intellectual curiosity. you can't force someone into studying X trends in their free time, getting sidetracked dissecting viral posts, filming content for fun, all while retaining a high level of taste instead of resorting to AI automation. they have to truly love the game.
literal hardest role to hire for rn and every ai startup wants someone > chronically online (knows trends) > has taste & can create (new media) > understands ai & technical > can execute with quality (operator) such a small niche of folks who can do this
