The discourse around DC is entirely your fault @JamesGunn, it's not that you need to tell everyone everything, but the constant start stop on ideas and you consistently pushing off Batman leaves huge room for speculation. Want people to stop? Tell them what is actually going on and not hide things that seem obvious, like you don't know how to differentiate Batman from Matt Reeves, turning him into yet another horror allegory is played out, an you know that. Reeves has the shadow mythologized version you wanted to make down completely, it seems like you're needing to remap Brave and the Bold. I bet you're now realizing one wants Damian without Nightwing and the other Robins. You're lost with him and in that you're completely attached to Superman. Snyder had stepped away after a family tragedy, and Joss Whedon took over. Affleck says the reason was used as an excuse.
What he took from it: he saw how not to make a movie like that, when the studio is at odds with the filmmaker.
Warner later funded Snyder to finish his own four-hour cut. Affleck came back as Batman in it.
My read: by Affleck's account, Warner replaced Snyder to fix the film, lost the Batman movie, then paid for Snyder's cut anyway.
