Earlier this week, @absolutely_KJD from @FinRight was featured in @EconomicTimes and @theoutlookmoney on the new ₹25,000 EPFO wage ceiling.
But the bigger story isn’t the change from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.
It is what happens when millions of more employees enter the social security system.
In @theoutlookmoney, he spoke about what actually changes for employees.
With the higher wage ceiling, EPS membership becomes mandatory for eligible employees earning up to ₹25,000 in basic + DA.
But EPS eligibility isn’t decided by your current salary alone.
If you were already an EPS member, you generally continue to remain one even if your salary later crosses ₹25,000.
On the other hand, if you enter your first job above the wage ceiling, you may not enter EPS at all.
Which means two people earning the exact same salary today can have completely different EPS treatment because of their past employment history.
In @EconomicTimes, he went a step deeper.
The concern isn’t whether expanding social security is good. It is. The concern is whether the existing system is ready for millions of more employees.
We already see cases where wrong Date of Joining or Date of Exit, incorrect EPS contributions, missing contributions and gaps in service history remain unnoticed for years.
These issues often surface only when someone tries to transfer or withdraw their PF, or claim their pension.
And with the new ceiling, a much larger group of employees will now enter EPS.
As @absolutely_KJD pointed out, expanding coverage without fixing these legacy issues could simply expand the number of people affected by them.
That, for us, is the bigger conversation around this change.
The ₹25,000 ceiling may bring millions of more Indians under social security.
But wider coverage has to be accompanied by clearer rules, cleaner records and a system that makes mistakes easier to correct.
For employees, the takeaway is simple:
Don’t just check how much money is sitting in your PF account.
Check the record behind that money.
Your EPS status, Date of Joining, Date of Exit and contribution history could matter far more when you actually need to access your PF.
Thank you to @SanketD_ET and Versha Jain for giving us the opportunity to contribute to this conversation.

₹15,000 to ₹25,000 sounds like a simple EPF update.
But the impact on your salary may be very different from the person sitting next to you.
For one employee, take-home pay falls.
For another, nothing changes.
For someone else, the contribution stays the same, but they come under pension coverage.
Why?
Because the impact depends on how your PF is structured today.
Is your PF capped at the wage ceiling?
Is it calculated on your full basic salary?
Are you already covered under EPS?
These details can completely change what the new ₹25,000 wage ceiling means for you.
We’ve broken down the 3 common scenarios in the infographic below, with the before and after monthly numbers.

Global investing. A home loan. The right credit card.
Three very different financial decisions. One place to get guidance on all of them.
That’s how one of our clients has been using Thefynprint Concierge Plus.
Here’s what they had to say 👇
“I’ve been using Thefynprint Concierge Plus for a while, and I’ve found it genuinely useful. I’ve taken guidance on global investments, a home loan, and even choosing the right credit card.
What I liked was that I could discuss different financial needs with someone who understood my requirements, instead of figuring everything out on my own. Having access to these services through one membership made things much more convenient.
For me, the biggest value has been having reliable guidance whenever I’ve needed to make an important financial decision."

Yesterday, we received two very different customer experiences.
Together, they reminded us why we started FinRight.
Proshanto’s case was one we could not resolve.
He had almost given up on recovering his PF, and despite our efforts, the case reached a point where the outcome was beyond our control because of the complexity of the process.
What stayed with us was his response.
He appreciated the effort, the transparency, and the fact that we were honest about what we could and could not do. He even chose to share his experience publicly.
We don’t shy away from cases like this. Our promise is simple: if we cannot deliver what we committed to, we refund the full amount.
Then there was Vadivel.
His PF history had been complicated for more than 7 years. Multiple UANs, stuck transfers, EPS issues and accounts that needed to be consolidated.
After around 1.5 months of persistent work, the issues were finally untangled.
And yesterday, the money reached his bank account.
Two completely different outcomes on the same day.
One reminded us that persistence does not always guarantee a resolution.
The other reminded us why persistence matters.
What we promise our customers is straightforward: we will explore every possible route, follow up consistently, and communicate honestly throughout the process.
Some cases are resolved quickly.
Some take months.
And sometimes, despite every possible effort, the final outcome may still not be in our hands.
We’re fortunate to have a team that continues to show up and do the difficult work behind the scenes.
And to everyone who trusts us with something as important as their hard-earned PF, thank you.
EPFO wage ceiling has been increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month.
This is a major change for salaried employees. The revised EPFO wage ceiling expands mandatory EPF, EPS and EDLI coverage.
For employees whose PF contribution was calculated on the earlier ₹15,000 ceiling, the employee contribution at 12% can increase from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000 per month.
The employer contribution is also split between EPF and EPS. With the higher wage ceiling, the amount going towards EPS pension can increase, which could mean a higher monthly pension after retirement. Unlike EPF, however, EPS does not earn interest as an individual corpus.
So there is a trade-off: your monthly take-home salary may reduce, but more money can go towards your long-term retirement and pension benefits.
Do you think increasing the EPFO wage ceiling to ₹25,000 is the right move for salaried employees?

If you needed your PF for a hospital expense today, would you know exactly where to apply?
You can withdraw PF for medical treatment, but there are eligibility rules and a specific process you need to follow.
Save this thread. You may need it someday. 👇
Your EPFO Date of Exit is easy to ignore. Until you actually need your PF.
When people leave a job, they usually check whether their final PF contribution has been credited and move on. But there’s another detail that is worth checking before you close the chapter on that employment: your Date of Exit.
A missing or incorrect Date of Exit can create problems later, particularly when you try to transfer your PF or reconcile your EPFO service history.
Here’s where it matters:
1. PF transfers
For an online PF transfer, the Date of Exit from your previous employment needs to be available. If it is missing, your previous Member ID will not be available for transfer.
2. Your service history
Your EPFO record should reflect when each employment started and ended. Incorrect dates can create inconsistencies, especially when the dates of two employments overlap or don't match your actual employment history.
3. EPS service
Your Date of Exit is also part of the service record used to determine eligible service for EPS-related benefits. So, an incorrect employment record can become relevant when your pension eligibility is being assessed.
There’s also an important distinction when it comes to fixing the problem.
If your Date of Exit is missing, EPFO allows you to update it yourself after 60 days from leaving employment. If the Date of Exit is incorrect, the correction follows a different process and may require your employer to request the correction.
That’s why it’s worth checking your EPFO record soon after you leave a job, rather than waiting until your next PF transfer or claim.
At the very least, verify these four things:
Date of Joining → Date of Exit → Reason of Exit → Service History
A five-minute check after changing jobs can save you from having to sort out an incorrect employment record years later.
You can check your exit dates across your past employments in one place with "CheckMyPF".

What are the implications for tax savings, employer contributions, and long-term financial security? In this special discussion, Pankaj Mathpal, Founder & Managing Director, Optima Money Managers, and Ketan Das, Business Head, FinRight Technologies, break down the new EPFO rules, explain who should opt for lower PF contributions, and share practical advice for young professionals as well as those nearing retirement.

The most asked question in my last webinar with @thefynprint was this:
‘Should I withdraw my PF or transfer it?’
In most cases, transferring your EPF is better than withdrawing it.
🧵 Here’s why👇🏼
5) Employer dependencies
After you leave, employers stop responding or get shut down/acquired, leaving your PF in limbo.
🔹Transferring right after you leave is a must.
6) People come to @FinRight for PF withdrawal and later discover that an old PF account was never transferred.
♦️The problem only surfaces when the person needs the money urgently.
Comment Checklist and I’ll DM you the PF Transfer Checklist.
