Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks. By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time. Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

hank green has frankly been doing an admirable job navigating between the poles of "AI is fake and evil" and "brrrrr accelerateeee" those who swim in the water of only one of these sides will of course see him as a traitor but that's what always happens in culture wars

i'm really enjoying the @its_adamneely @CosmicSkeptic podcast. so cool to hear a musician-philosopher and a philosopher-musician get into the modern philosophy of generated music. i do think adam holds a difficult position trying to resist AI while endorsing plunderphonics

like let's be real, photography functionally killed photorealistic painting. but painting survived and became more interesting for it, and photography moved on from replacing traditional portraits and landscapes and became the art of finding a moment

maybe AI music will become something like that: the art of capturing a moment, instantly, in music. maybe it'll be more like italian brainrot, enabling a network of evolving interconnected musical memes. it'll probably be neither of those! the niche must emerge

Oh Holy Night is my favourite christmas song. Someone accused me of flouting the holiness of the holiday with this one, but i think of it as telegraphing reverence for the unearthly powers of the universe
