society does not always have to reject you. sometimes, all it takes is for you to reject yourself, and someone else will gladly take the opportunity you walked away from— showing you that your rejection became their acceptance, even when they were less qualified than you.
every minute you spend deliberating over whether to go for something, someone else is putting themselves forward.
and as the moments tick away, you may eventually find yourself feeding on the crumbs of the dry wheat you could have eaten while the pot was still full...
even if society rejects you and says no, reject society's verdict and say yes to yourself.
