Protecting Uganda’s birds is a shared responsibility that also safeguards our cultural heritage. Speaking at the second edition of the Run for Birds, Owekitiibwa @NajibSsekikubo , CEO of the @TourBugandaUG , called on individuals and organisations to support Avian Conservation Uganda’s conservation initiatives, emphasising birds’ deep cultural significance and the need to preserve them for future generations. #RunForBirds26

Speaking at Run for Birds 2026, Jean-Philippe Bittencourt, General Manager of Sheraton Kampala Hotel, highlighted the vital role birds play in Uganda’s tourism industry. Speaking at the launch of the first edition of Avian Conservation Uganda’s Birds magazine, @BirdsofUganda emphasised the need to document and profile Uganda’s species, including birds, highlighting both their scientific importance and cultural relevance. He called for making this knowledge accessible to younger generations so they can understand, appreciate and preserve these species and their cultural significance for the future.
